After about 10 days, I got a call from the Recruiting Agent expressing regrets and he said the client had recruited another person who agreed for a 20% lesser salary than me and asked me if I can match that. I told him point blank that I am not on road and am still on a pretty long term project and so would not compromise. there ended the story.
So "some times" your theory could back fire.

Your thoughts ??
??
I dont want to pick at you...but from where I stand it looks like you were pretty unflexible. Were you able to ask for other benefits in lieu of the salary drop? If you reach at a 'take it or leave it/Point Blank' stage it stops being a negotiation. One(employer/employee) reaches at that stage when one feels one is in a position to do so. You reached that position so do you regret the decision to stop negotiating? If so, why?
No, Jake here is what happened, first I quoted my requirement(expectation) and then
> they asked me if this was negotiable, I said 'Yes'.
> then they came back with a number and benefit package too, turst me the salary was too low compared to what I asked for, and as you said I agreed to that thinking that it is ok I can not and should not directly comapre the US and canadian pay scales, and completely agreed to what they offered.
> and after all these things they tried to bend me, that is where I refused point blank. it was there offer and they went back on it.

More over As I said earlier, our situation sets the tone for such bargaining or negotiations.
In my case I was on a stronger side /situation and no desperate at all under any circumstances and hence I could reject that offer straight away.
Had I been in Canada and say jobless for few months and looking for a break etc, then I would not have any choice except to accept the offer irrespective of whether it matches my skill set and worth.

Although relevant in a way, I think the discussion is becoming too focused on interview-negotiation issues. Some of the conversation probably belongs to a job-hunting / negotiation thread.
Its relevant in a way, but would be nice if people started listing non-job related mistakes too. Also, from the perspective of someone simply reading the thread for informational purposes, "bullets" would be easier to digest than discussion.
I think a good thing to do would be for someone to start a "Negotiating your salary/position in an interview" thread and I'll transfer some of this information to that one and make it a sticky. Or I'll do this myself tonight. The discussion can continue on that one.
