a) desensitize people and make them ignore the tragedies of wars
>>No, I dont think it makes people to ignore. In ME, it may fuel more hatred since it taps into their emotions. Propaganda is after all targeted mainly towards people's emotions.

b) Cause so much discomfort and horror that 1st world nations would exert more pressure on countries to cease fire in order to avoid senseless dying.
>>>Could be. E.g. Reagan asking Marcos to step down and flee after he saw the pictures from Manila on TV (nuns on their kneels on the road)

The reason I ask is that North americans are sheltered very carefully from death. Media here does not show the type of pictures allowed/seen in other countries.
>>>Instead of North America, how abt USA? The media shows what they want, not what people want. If the pictures are going to cause sensation, it would be shown over and over again.

A definite possibility

This is what I hope does not happen in this instance. To put this apparently heartless response into perspective...a war is senseless, whatever the reason.

Innocents die in war and there is NO just war, only different perspectives. However, it's sometimes necessary inorder to preserve the self interest of any country/group/system. Ideally there will be a collective change in humanity to reverse this fact.

Nobody should go to war if they think they can have a 'clean' one. A war IS about death and destruction.

The firebombing on Dresden and the Atomic bombing of Japan did play a role(even if disputed) to hasten the end of war. From a military perspective one would rather have 'them' die than 'us'.

thoughts?

This attitude may only result in downfall of a 'well-intentioned' and 'morally-right' civilization. Like I said war is brutal and if one sees need in the existence of an 'army' then, at times, one needs to realise that the army has to get its job done. A 'clean' war is a hypocrites pipe-dream.

I think one of the greatest difficulties of the war on terror is that all the rules or engagement, ethics and morality only apply to one one side. The terrorists get a free pass on these things all the time.

Every other day, you hear of bombings in Iraq perpetrated by terrorists on their own people (i.e. in markets, mosques, roads etc). I'm sure a lot of women and children get killed in these attacks. But I've never heard of a uproar about this from Muslim nations who're so offended by the attack in Qana.

Is it ok when Islamic extremists kill muslims to create chaos? Why don't all these countries come out and critisize those acts as vehemently and call the terrorists the cold blooded murderers they are?

Exactly. The apologists have this game whereby all is quiet during the murder-suicide bombings, chopping off of body parts etc. However, theres a HUGE outcry over things like Abu Gharib and Gitmo.

Lets face it, there are probably more innocent victims in a market place murder-suicide bombing than in Abu Gharib or Gitmo. Its like terrorists being paraded in an underwear is more henious than maiming and killing innocent people in a marketplace.

The western liberal media has a big part to play in this. Theres all these demands for introspection only on one side. Its time the western world said to the islamic world...ok we have rallied against Abu Gharib, Gitmo etc...now you do your part at introspection. Lets see you be loud and clear, without IF'S and BUT'S for a change instead of playing victim all the time. The 'muslim-brotherhood' card can be played only for so long without it being obviously fascist/supremacist.

I now have a newfound respect for Blair. He's FINALLY not talking like a politician. You can see that he's one of the few politicians who's finally lifted the thick veil of political correctness and is now saying what needs to be said.

After that VERY articulate speech he delivered with Bush, here's TB again making a lot of sense at another speech at the LA WAC....

Way to go! I hope moderate muslims applaud him as much as I do...

Although no fan of Bush but:
Better Bushes and Blairs to rule the world than BinLadens, Hezbollahs, Talibans and Ahmadinejads.
Can you imagine the world under these fanatics?
imagine...imagine.......imagine........
That is why west fears the nuclear capabilities to go into wrong hands.
Scary....
