I don't. I know a couple of muslim families myself who see this point of view very well.

I don't think that's a fair remark.

I have to agree with BL. Albeit few, there are muslims who would have positive view on Mr. Blairs comments. My concern is why Canadian leaders, although say much of the same things, are not convincing enough, and sound more like Bush than Blair. How is Muslim community taking the stand shown my Peter and Harper?
BL?

After that VERY articulate speech he delivered with Bush, here's TB again making a lot of sense at another speech at the LA WAC....

Way to go! I hope moderate muslims applaud him as much as I do...

WOW. All of us who value democracy and secularism NEED leaders like him.
Blair is so right on when he talks about the 'victim' card being played over and over
----------
The strategy behind Islamist extremism, Blair said, is based "on a presumed sense of grievance that can motivate people to divide against each other. Our answer has to be a set of values strong enough to unite people with each other.'
---------------------

If it werent for Bush I dont think Blair could say the things he is saying. Bush is the one who flagged the cause Blair is now championing. It would be soooo easy for Bush to call for a immediate ceasefire. I commend him for staying the tough course along with Blair. I hope the rest of the west can fall in behind them.

How are many in the west(non-muslims), themselves taking the stand shown by western leaders backing Israel? Till lately the liberal media themselves had a rose-tinted view of the extremist agenda. Does anyone remember the cries of 'dont go to Iraq, they will leave us alone' etc? If anything the western media, in pursuit of western introspection, only added to the sense of 'victimization' of the muslim community.

However, lately things are turning and one can see heightened(though cautious) criticism of the supremacist ideology within islam. I'm sure if we all keep it up there will be a change in the community to take further steps to encourage a more tolerant mindset. Its either that or take your intolerant and supremacist ideology and ship out of secular/democratic countries. I dont care if you are a lilly-white 5th gen Canadian irish immigrant convert. If your core values are SO clearly different...get out!

it still does not answer questions as to why mr green helmets clothes dont show any signs of digging in rubble etc.

I think it's great to see world leaders like Blair taking on this stance regarding Islamic extremists. They're begining to realise that there are deeper issues that need to be resolved. This kind of stance is calling out to the more "modern" Islamics in the world to look within themselves and their religion and see what needs to be changed and ask questions. Reminds me of the book that Jake had mentioned in another, earlier post in which he talked about a book called "The Trouble with Islam Today".

Mind you, this new way of looking at things is not going over that well with others in the UK:
