Crenshaw
Thumps up man for giving your side of Canadian picture. These failure people are all crying so loud that even I was start getting doubts maybe this G-7 member country is worst than our motherland India for whom so many of these people love ( at least through message boards) but never care to come back.
I wonder what stops such skilled people to come back, start living ,so called successful life here they have left. Start earning & paying taxes. But no, these “mama crying boys “ will do nothing to re-skill themselves. But will just complain. I don’t think they will ever appreciate any things. God help us from such chaps.

Lets acknowledge the fact that if things were as bad as they are being made out to be, a lot of folks posting negatively here would have been on a flight back to wherever they came from. If they were doing as well as they make themselves out to be prior to coming to Canada, their previous employers should be more than happy to have them back.........and we in Canada more than happy to see them go!

This is a land of milk and honey so nobody goes back! Also one of best countries in the world to live in as per UN! :D

OK jokes apart, see both sides of the coin before landing here. Immigration and going back to homeland are very major decisions in life. After you land, going back is not that easy either. How many times can you start your life from scratch? There are people from different backgrounds in India who are working in Canada at $8-$10 per hour in factories. Does this mean they enjoy a higher standard of living than homeland at $8-10 per hour and hence do not go back? Some are pretty successful too and life in Canada is the best they could have got anywhere in the world! This is not a hell hole but neither does money grow on trees here!

Not just this forum, other similar forums do have their own share of negativity. See both sides, positive and negative.

since we Indians basically have the mentality of a crab in a barrel – every time someone tries to get out of it, we pull him back……

Is this how you think about yourself ?
That's poor thinking...

Not myself, but a lot of the people that post here.

You either didn't read the entire post or are trying to take statements out of context!

Just to add - I am a successful first generation past middle-age immigrant. When I came here 6 years ago I was past 40. I landed a well paying job in a reputable company within a couple of months of landing here. So what? Should that be taken as a rule? No. If you want me to be honest, I will say with certainty, that it is more of an exception. I was just plain lucky!!! And this is what I want to convey that despite my success, I do not want to encourage people to come to Canada. Here I would like to clarify a very important point. The "not g\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" gab is not for the whole spectrum of immigrants. The people I do not encourage are only those
1. who have a reasonably successful career in their home country
2. those who are middle age or over
3. those who have well paying and reasonably secure jobs back home.
People who belong to this above category are the most likely to feel miserable and defeated if they come to this country.
It is perfectly ok to think of immigration and come to Canada for people for whom one or more of the following is true:
1. Less than 30 years of age.
2. At most are in first few years of their career building.
3. Do not have a lot to lose even if they are forced to start from ground zero.
4. Have not had much of a taste of seniority and a successful career as a manager and above in their home country.
5. Are willing to re-educate themselves.
6. Have children that are young(<10 years of age) which gives them sufficient time to save for the post secondary education of their children.
7. Do not have well paying jobs in their home country.
8. Are not likely to feel depressed if forced to work in menial jobs e.g labour, cab drivers, Tim Hortons, security guard, telemarketing etc.
9. Do not have sound post secondary qualifications.
Maybe I could add more, but I will leave that to fellow desis.

make copy of these and send it as a reply to desi asking you of the condition in Canada.

Hey Crenshaw :)

Hello Jago desi Sahab

Please dont make such a blunder of sending that to anyone unless s/he's totally devoid of brains. Those guys whom you send it to would probably die laughing.

For example as the much liked post says

1. "who have a reasonably successful career in their home country"

How is success to be measured ? 1 lakh a year ? 2 lakhs a year ? What about the author - i suppose he wasnt any of these, and yet after he came to Canada and became as he claims this " a middle aged sucessful first generation immigrant" - WOW ! ;)

So if Canada gave him so much - after all he was a total write off back in India (as per his own standards) - how come hes one of the top Canada bashers on this site ? Why so negative ?

2. "those who are middle age or over"

I gather (from the author's own post) that the author is 46 years of age now. He came 6 years ago, so he would have been 40 years of age then, and yet he turned into this "wonderful sucessful middle aged first generation immigrant" - why then discouarge others by saying that only people lesser than 30 years of age should consider immigration ?

He should be motivating others with his "success" story.

3. "those who have well paying and reasonably secure jobs back home"

So what is "secure" to be defined as ? Pensionable Government jobs ? Thats typical indian mentality - a clerk in a govt service is secure - "beti ki shaadi govt wale se hi karegey".

Anything else isnt "secure". Correct me if i am wrong. Is there any job where there is total security despite a hundred FUs apart from govt service ?? I really dont think so.

So by that sense even a person making 2 lakhs in a month in a pvt sector isnt "secure" & shouldnt be barred from considering Canada to migrate.

If that be true, why then is there so much of hue & cry when people from pvt sector want to migrate ?

Though i guess it would be futile trying to explain to the author about things like ambition, desire for a better quality of life, striving for something more & better environ as they probably wont mean anything - but heres news - it does to some people- people who arent just after the 1 = 33 factor and saving a chunk of change.

ON once gave some suggestions in a different post as to who would do better in immigration - Yes, what he said made sense and he had the ABILITY to convey it too and convince the other guy.

If you want to caution learn how to do that.

Like theres this preposterous suggestion in this quoted post that those who are not experienced much in any field should come to Canada - Which employer in on this earth in his right mind would give a job to a person whos not got any real worthwhile experience - then hes just an unskilled labourer . Thats a great suggestion Pal :( Then Toronto = NY= desi cab drivers everywhere.

Dear people, this is a wonderful place to gain insight into Canada-till things like this happen.

All one sees are the same three or four regulars continously posting negative about Canada and yet at the same time they claim to be successful, earning in 6 figures and stuff. I doubt very much and i am sure so does everyone else.

Does it make sense for such "successful" people to crib endlessly ;) Or maybe its their attitude.

There can be two possibilties as i see it for such a post as quoted

(a) if hes really as successful then its plain bad attitude which prompts such posts :D tsk tsk - while you should be encouraging others with your "success" story.

(b) Or else its a plain case of having failed thereby plain disgusted using this site to vent those feelings.

Theres a difference between trying to caution and posts like "CANADA IMMIGRATION SUCKS" - you cant say that you are "cautioning" with these kind of headings.

Why should anyone whos in Canada, whether a success or not that big a success (first of all the definition of success varies from person to person) expect that JUST BECAUSE HE FEELS THAT CANADA IS NOT WORTH IT - THE RULE SHOULD APPLY TO EVERYONE IN THE WORLD ? WHY ?

WHY DO SOME PEOPLE ASSUME THAT PROSPECTIVE IMMIGRANTS SHOULD TOE THE (NEGATIVE) LINE YOU REEL OUT - AND JOIN YOU WITH A GASP -SAYING "OH MY GOD ! IS THAT SO ? ITS SUCH A DISGUSTING COUNTRY ?? COME TOMORROW MORNING I AM GOING TO THE CHC AND GETTING MY PAPERS BACK". if thats what you really expect - forget it. It aint happening. save your breath.

Another thing, if you feel that you have the RIGHT to negate, i am sure by those standards the others who are in the process of immigrating have a right to a positive feed - not because it is a tit for tat game being played on the forum - but BECAUSE ITS THE ONLY RIGHT THING FOR THAT PERSON TO DO ELSE IF A PERSON WHOS ON HIS WAY COMES WITH AN ENEMICAL ATTITUDE WHICH SUCH POSTS GIVE BIRTH TO - BY WAY OF FORMING A BIAS, THAT ALONE WILL DEBAR HIM FROM GETTING A JOB EVEN IF HE HAD BEEN CAPABLE OF GETTING ONE EARLIER.

These gentlemen have to realise that they are doing a lot of harm unknowingly. Also please realise that the people who are coming are GROWN UP MATURE PEOPLE - immigration isnt a joke - people have given it serious thought- pooled in their lives resources and staked a claim - let them try- they may succeed while they may not - noones blaming you for that -had they stayed back on with their lives in India i am sure you wouldnt have cared to advice how they led their lives - grant them that much - they have brains too - allow them to think - bring out your experiences especially the bad ones - so that they can compare and period - leave it at that. Dont get cynical.

Would a refugee/ person from Afghanistan, African states, Kabul, Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri lanka, Mauritius stop from entering India merely on my saying that bosses usually scream abuses, theres huge scale unemployment, you dont get any value whatsoever for taxes paid, neighbours dont let you play music, people dont help each other, flood/ riots/ disaster/ thefts/ murders/ bribery/strikes/ lockouts/ no work culture/ shabby offices/ pollution/ spitting/ urinating on walls & streets/infanticides are a part of life, doctors are for the most part incompetent and IAS take bribes ? NO !! For him its anyday better than where hes at. S/he would be willing to take a chance here than where s/he is at present.

And just give it deep thought - why did you go ? For the same very reaons why shouldnt others try too ?

Canada is that for India - the UN & urban group 2001 states that the level of income clasified by the developing/ third world countries as "middle income group" is upto 60 % lower than the "low income group" of Developed countries ( the report was for natural disaster management in countries with case studies)

To the ever negative gentlemen, Last i heard, God was still at his job, the place is taken. So it would be a great help if people just post their experiences- good & bad - and let the others draw their conclusions.

Regards

SF
