My husband and I may be relocating to the US later this year. We have a car (Ontario registered) that we'd like to take with us to the US. Does anyone know what the formalities are that are to be done? I believe there will be some procedures in Canada - to export the car, and then some procedures in the US - to allow a foreign car in. Thank you.
1. Contact your car manufacturer, give your VIN and get the certificate that your car is competible in the USA
2. While crossing the border get a custom form from the officer. If you miss to do that, you can go to any other POE (Port of Entry) like nearest international airport and get it done.
3. Go to nearest DMV and they will do the rest for you.

Another option which you may want to consider if you can is to sell the car in Canada and buy another one in US. Cars (new or old) are comparatively less expensive in US then in Canada. And with current exchange rates it may come out to be more benificial. Plus you will avoid the import/export work.
Thanks for the replies. Most appreciated :-)
