If Ruby Dhalla really wanted to make up for the injustice done to the children, she should fully sponser the children to grow up as model citizens of India by educating them, providing them with food and shelter. Only then will I be convinced that she really cared about the injustice done to the children.
I donot say that she should sponser them to Canada or adopt them but she could send some monetary assistance to some NGO/Shelter to care of them until they turn 21. It would clear some doubts about her position with respect to the beating of the kids by Punjab police.

Wishful thinking TK...only possible while living in the NA or Europe.
1. Sending money to NGO or charity
- do you believe they will really give anything to the poor kids? Knowing that the donor is far away in Canada, there is no way to monitor those funds effectively.2. This will also encourage other kids to resort to similar tactics for earning FREE living expenses till they turn 21...pick pocket any visiting foreigner, get a few thrashings and call the newspaper for publicity. There, now you dont have to worry about growing up in poverty.
It is one thing to get emotional about the whole episode and other thing to be politically correct all the time.
I dont want to comment on the MPs conscience, but lets not forget the ground reality in India and how would an average Indian reacts when he is pick pocketed and the culprit is eventually caught. 9/10 times the culprit is bound to get a thrashing if not from the police, then the surrounding public. Especially, if the victim is a female and in the present case the victim is a female from overseas AND a political figure as well....well well..need anymore spices for the story?
Will the coverage and feeling still be same if the Victim was an average Indian? I am sure the treatment of the kids would have been taken for granted. This does not mean the treatment was justified, but the coverage and the importance it is being given is unjustified.
Just my 2 cents.

You got my position wrong. This has happened to a Canadian (Desi) politician and not to a tourist. She must come out of this mess gracefully or the conservatives may use this situation during election time to het disadvantage. There were atleast 2 other MP (of desi orgin)with her (Harinder thakkar and another Sikh (Canadian) MP) and they were not blamed since they did not speak about it.
Let me give you an example. Not too long ago, a guy named Mike Crowe opened a website http://www.Mikecrowsoft.com." rel="nofollow">LINK Now the Micro soft guys learnt of it and the legal dept. called him and asked it to be shut down. He refused and asked for a small sum to take of the hassle of shutting it down. So the legal dept. offered him $500 which he refused as being too low. The situation was getting tense. So the management of Microsoft called the boy and agreed to give him a scholarship while he woule be going to college. The boy accepted it and the media ended by saying that Micro soft handled the situation very well. (of course for publicity mostly).
Ruby made a mistake of commenting. She now must take steps to defuse the situation so that it would not haunt her in the future.
