I had read an article on Canada's 'humane ' policies sometimes back. The railways were built by a lot of Chinese labour who were brought from China and the exorbitant cost of building them was '1 death per 2 kms' ....... sadly ........... these people or their families were not accorded a permanent status for decades till finally in 2003 - 2004 .............

Every place has its pitfalls .... it is a matter of demand and supply .

So basically you are saying that since their condition back in India would be worse off so they can be exploited as much as possible. Well going by that same logic then Canada is also not at fault .... after all engineer's in Canada would make more money in labor jobs then they would in their regular jobs in India.

What is wrong is wrong ....... if you have only seen the condition that these people live in, you would understand.

As for immigration to Canada .... a lot of people you find in Canada, especially from Punjab have basic english language skills (english language skills are necessary if you want to immigrate through skilled worker program) ..... still they manage to come here manage perfectly good life style ...... something that even well paid person's in gulf would envy.

I have a truck driver in my office, from Punjab, he has very basic english language skills ...... and he has been here for last 7-8 years .... owns a 300 K house ... owns two cars ..... kids go to school where other kids are from families who make over 100k. He is in a unionised job so his job is secure and at the end when he retires he get a substantial pension. From a low skilled worker he is doing great.

Going by the same logic .....professionals in India are better off working in Canada ..... after all there is more then a bee line for Canadian aspirants ... a waiting list for five years ;)

3. Exploitation exists everywhere including your truly Canada where you find well qualified engineers working as salesmen / janitors / laborers ...... for the lack of 'Canadian experience ' . Lets not get swayed by Canadian Immigration ..... they didn't do it for a charity . Canada has a dwindling population to which this enormous country would have succumbed to had it not been for Immigration . They need people and by offering a scanned policy they get professionals who have worked hard and risen at the cost of their own countries .

Sadly Dubai / ME does not provide permanence , hence loses a lot of professionals to Can / Aus ........... but the same option does not exist for laborers .

No one does anything for charity ...... labourers are not getting paid well in India, as the wages are low across the board ..... till some time back the president of India .... the highest paid person in govt. of india used to get a salary of 30,000 per month ....... but this is not the case in ME ..... people have money and they are spending it ......... the ratio of earnings for a labourer from India to his supervisor from another country is un immaginable. An immigrant worker in a job will get paid same or maybe even 15-20% less then a person from Canada ..... but in ME it can vary over 100% !!!!!!! even for professionals

On top of that they are forced to live in camps. Hope you know that the labourers are allowed only one day where they can get into some areas of Dubai ..... every friday you will find all labourers assembling near Nasser square in Dubai. In some cases labourers have been arrested for wearing lungi in some areas !!!!!!

Puttoo ~ I think we are saying different things which are both correct . I admit that there s exploitation and not denying that their conditions are not good . At the same time you admit (I believe) that conditions in India / home countries are worse . Life is all about choices be it between 02 goods or 02 bads .

But at the same time they are getting a better compensation compared to what they would have earned in India and since they DO NOT have a choice of migrating to Canada , they prefer to slog ..... They DO have a choice to return but feel Gulf provides them much better money .

Thats precisely the reason why a well qualified immigrant leaves a respectable job in India / elsewhere and opts to do labor / other basic jobs .

How can a under qualified , non English conversant laborer come to Canada under independent category (IELTS 6.5) , other then by using foul means , I fail to understand . What other category is open for him if he doesn't have any relatives to sponsor him ?

You think the qualified immigrant has/had the same access to information and similar facilities as the labourer to Dubai...when it comes to making a decision to move to a foreign country?

Most of the 'qualified immigrants' including you and me are among the fortunate ones in India. As I see it people like us are in a great position to apply due diligence to the decision making process simply due to the facilities available to us while still in India. The laborer to dubai is not...have prolly never sat on a pc. Are you sure you want to keep comparing the two situations?

Even if you insist, once here one is in a better position to move from a labor job to a white collar position than a labourer in dubai.
