I'd recommend you contact the Indian consulate in Toronto (if that's your jurisdiction) and verify the timeline for PIO. This link - http://www.cgitoronto.ca/pio/piocard.htm states PIO will be issued in 15 days.

Also, PIO applications are received directly by the consulate (and not VFS), hence, you could go in person to expedite.

Unfortunately, the fee is $480 CAD for PIO compared to $270 USD for OCI.

Based on online info, PIO appears to be a faster route and yes, you can apply for OCI from India.

And, don't forget the upcoming holidays in December...not many business days left to deal with the consulate. Good luck.

Thanks Dimple2001,

I will apply the same way for PIO which seems to be faster.

Now only clarification required for Income Tax issues and opening of bank account in India and in Canada ( type of account).Any one from the forum( Tax consultant) who may guide for the IT issues/procedure etc.(financial year difference of India and Canada in terms of IT deduction/ return) to whom I may clarify the points in details before leaving for India.

Would appreciate the expert advise related with financial/money transfer from India/IT issues.

For now you don't have to worry about the taxation part. You start work on Jan 1, 2010 or later. Canadian Tax filing year ends Dec 31, 2009, for the year Jan-Dec 2009, you have to file your Canadian returns.

Year ending March 31, 2010 you file your Indian Tax return

Next, you can apply for (Canadian) Non-Resident status prior to Dec 31, 2010

Hope that helps...

You have time till the 1st of January 2010 to reach India. So, Please drop the idea of traveling to India on the Indian Passport, Gray area or otherwise. You might jeopardize your career and the status.

Now that you know that you can obtain your Passport sooner than the deadline you have posted, you are at an advantage to decide upon it. The time on hand is ample for you to get the Passport, a Work Visa and all of the travel documents all in time for you to reach the destination, by the 1st of January or sooner. Please note that in the month of December the seats are scarce and make all of your travel plans soonest after the receipt of the Passport.

There is a tabulation available on the web which gives you the advantages of obtaining the O.C.I Card. One being able to accept a job and stay at it there in India for an indefinite period. So, please be guided by that feature.

RESIDENT BUT NOT ORDINARILY RESIDENT (RNOR) is explained here and these people are good and there are others who do the taxes for those who reside in Canada and in India also. So be selective in your tax filing and return, who you choose before giving them access to your tax files. All of these status and conditions will vanish in the new tax system and it will be just history from then on. http://www.nritaxservices.com/about_us.htm
Here is an interesting situation that merits attention and reading:

You should be well advised with regards to the severance of ties with Canada and please seek some legal advice in that prior to departure. The best place is to contact an Immigrant Help Center closest to you first and see how they can help you in this matter.

Freddie.

Thanks Freddie for all the informations.

Finally I have decided to go for PIO(faster processing time) and than apply for OCI from India ,if need will arise. Since I am not finding any major difference between PIO vs OCI except for life long visa and registering with local police station, if stay will be more than 180 days.Anyhow I would be travelling to Canada before completing 90 /180 days in India or I will register. Any comments on this?

RNOR: As per eligibility for RNOR I am not eligible for RNOR because I am here in Canada only since last 4 years. So this is ruled out. Am I correct?

Further I will try to find out someone for handling my Taxation here in Canada or any Tax consultant on this forum who may guide/help me in right legal direction before I leave.

I will also try to contact an Immigrant Help Centre. Any contact details for Kitchener/Waterloo area for Immigrant Help Centre?

Applied fro PIO from CGI Toronto on December 4,2009.Everythong was Ok at CGI only the waiting time from 9 AM till 11.30AM. At the reception lady asked for the copy of citizenship certificate instead of citizenship card, which luckily I was carrying. Other process went very smooth. As per them the PIO card will be deliverd within 20 days, which is well in my planned time limit.

Thanks to everyone on this forum for their advise.

Next , would appreciate for the advise on tax matter & opening of bank account.
