Do you think, we are not trying to relocate and have our previous job back and previous status back? You don't know how difficult it is. Now suppose we ask one expat who is settled down here in canada for past 10-15 years and is over 40, tell him to relocate to say India. Do you think it is easy for that person to get job in India after 40.? I don't think I have to write more.We all are intelligent and know the scenario.

Then we are keeping positive mind/attitude and pray that things will improve when economy improves. There is always hope.

Just to let Gopal Pai / TK know !

I had completed my Engg in India and also subsequently studied in Canada (full time.. related to my earlier Engg degree) and found well paying job related to my study in Canada. Have lived in Canada for about 7 years.

But during the recession, I found that going was tough and employees who had no qualification (other than being a localite ( ) were not laid off and I was let go !

I WAS DETERMINED NOT TO TAKE UP ANY OTHER JOB.. OTHER THAN MY FIELD OF STUDY !

HAVE DONE MY PART OF WORKING PART TIME / FULL TIME DURING MY STUDIES IN CANADA !!

I packed my bags with entire family and relocated back to India. I am doing well and found a reasonably well paying job related to my field of study. WE HAVE OCI !.. though it hardly matters now !

My kids are doing well in school and I don't have to crib about Canada ( after knowing what it is !)

WE HAVE MOVED ON !

hi tk,
i suppose tk is mentioning abt gulf where ppl are given free air ticket once in two years or one year depending upon the job you do.iam currently living in gulf and i do travel very frequently across the gcc every month(despite resistance from family ). i iam yet to find a country here where we get to save 90% of the salary.I shall be grateful to you if you would let me know the place so that i shall applying jobs there and become super rich in about 5 years.

It is true that you are picked from the airport but your passport is taken into their custody the minute you land and the same is the case with your families passports. The passport is returned back to you at the airport just before departing the country.Once you join a company changing jobs is next to impossible.Your are totally on the mercy of your sponsor even if you have to go to toilet (quite literally)

Due to some reason should you loose your job,you are expected to leave the country within 30 days failing which you are penalised for every day you stay and which is close to 30$ per day.If you are not in a position to paid to clear off your credit card/personal loans the only place you can go from here is Sri Krishna's Birth place. You will have to wait for the auspicious occasions (like 15th aug and 26th jan) until the rulers pardon you.

Freedom to express your self like how you do in the post is next to zero.

The list goes on..............

Only issues I had faced was at School.

My son does not know the local language and he is in 7th std now (Lost a year... school did not give him admission to 8th because he did not know either of the languages)

He was able to get 70 % at the end of the year (6th standard) and managed to get about 40 % in the languages.

I consider that very good, because he had to learn from alphabets (from scratch) whereas his classmates knew how to read or write !

Job wise, probably I was lucky !

And I am not in the IT field.

Guys,

The way this discussion is going , it seems that the situation is tuf out there . But let let me point out one thing, here in India too its no different. I passed out from my college in 2008, and only about 10% of us are in well paid jobs. The rest are either still hunting or are working for jobs which pay them a meager avg of 3000 - 5000 INR.

The value of engineers have terribly gown down here after the recession , in the sense, the pay has gone down drastically. Companies have realized there are skilled engineers out there ready to work for 5k less than the usual pay and are still continuing the policy after the slowdown.

The job market is on an upward climb here , but only for the guys who have 3+ years of experience. I work in a renowned product company and still the attrition rate here is horrible. Even if u get a job of about 40,000 INR how much can u really save ?? To get this salary we have to move to the more expensive cities like Banglore,Chennai and then on its almost as if living overseas. I am talking about the IT sector here.

What i mean to say is that the situation is tuf everywhere guys !! But lemme ask all of u one thing , how many of can say that u have not saved anything at all ....I mean the way some of u guys have posted it seems that , most of the immigrants out there are screwed up big time !!!! Is it that bad that u don't even have the money to come to India and survive for about 1 year , by which you ll definitely find a job here .

So come on, lets be honest here.....You cannot earn cash w/o a bit of toil and you probably will have to toil even harder in a foreign land. What I am looking for is even if i have to toil for a year ,at least I am giving my family a better standard of life !! Please ,please do correct me if I am wrong here ..... Is it that tuf to get a part time job even??

making money is not tough ..not tuf at all....

if u want to make money / save...u r at right place in canada...

but if these things matter to u ( i m not syaing these shld matter, i m just saying, if these matter to u ) then probably there are challenges :

* what u do to make that money ? (labor job / coffee shop ?)
* r u using ur brain or intellect at all...
* r u progressing / developing ? * will u be doing same thing after 15 years ? (some jobs are same even after 15 yrs, same job, almost same pay)
* is it a job or career ?
* r u ok working with college students or school drop outs ?
* do u need office job ? (welders / plumbers / drivers get paid v well)
