Desibabu70,

Good points you make. As of now Tories might be a better option than both the Grits and the Dippers as well. However, based on their recent track record, I do not trust Tories at all.

At federal level, Tories have made a few cosmetic changes (economic/social) with the overall impact being only marginal.

At city level, Ford started off well with a few policies, eg declaring TTC as an essential service, serious debate/intention on garbage outsourcing etc. .

However, off late he and his guardian(Doug) are shouting off their big mouths at the drop of a hat and engaging in dog and pony show.

Policies like library closures are small fish as they do not make a huge difference to the city's budget, meanwhile Ford has ignored and capitulated to the 900 pound goriila in the room.

Yep, no significant dent has been made into into city employees salaries(esp police) and Ford nation is proving to be another tax and spend regime in a different garb, sort of milder version of David Miller. Btw, Hudak has modelled himself after the Ford regime.

For me the real issue being-- where is Toronto's(GTA) money going?

It doesn't matter which of the three political parties get elected, for every dollar Toronto gives to the feds, and after MacGuinty uncleji has had his provincial level cut, alls we are left with are crumbs.

So much for taxation with representation. A billion dollar plus spent on a three day G-20 boondoggle right under our noses, but a few hundred million plus requested for city's subways, a long term CAPITAL expenditure spread over a few years, becomes a big deal!

So it doesn't matter which buffoon gets elected, we will still continue to get conned by all of them and forced to live on crumbs thrown at us unless we make it an election issue.

Btw, I agree with Hudak when it comes to making criminals work, the punks deserve it.

you are right about what's happening with the Ford regime.
it is sad and unfortunate.
he had/has the right idea.
however IMO what is happening here (which is not a huge surprise come to think of it) is that he has been stonewalled and has been prevented from the doing the things that he wanted and what is required.

the KPMG report was valid but IMO it was still not aggressive enough.
you have hit the nail on the head and the KPMG report had called it out as well.
police services are the second largest expense item for the city after the TTC and i believe it is now > 10%.

the simple reason that Ford was forced to go down the path of service cuts such as libraries (which was the worst dumbest idea like ever) is because he has been prevented from doing the cuts that are really needed, such as city worker salaries, pensions, time off and accumulative sick days.

remember the core issue for the garbage strike - the accumulative 4 weeks of sick time that the city workers had.
what kind of insanity is that?
when most private sector workers in this country barely get 2 weeks of vacation, these fat cats get 4 weeks of sick time, accumulative.

Of course they should be privatized and Ford was totally right about that.

the next thing he should ave gone after are the city worker pay and pensions, esp the pensions.
IMO, pensions for city wokers should be converted to a defined contribution plan similar to the Sask. pension plan.
the existing employees and contributions can stay within the existing plan (omers, isn't it) but all future contributions should be to the defined contribution plan.

that will save the city hundreds of millions of $$ over the course of next few years and countless billions over the next decades.

the next thing he should have gone after is the unlimited and shameless hiring of city workers without regard for actual number of workers required, esp. police.

the trouble is he has been prevented from doing this.

I feel he has been set up and his opponents knew what will happen next i.e. he will have to cut services, which will enrage people and turn common people and even his supporters against him and they will bury him in next elections.

I think that is exactly what will happen.
Ford will not win next elections.
some other clown will come and it will be back to the days of David Miller style spending and taxation.

answer is clear to me - it is all going to spoilt, arrogant, wasteful unionized city workers with fat pensions and benefits.

Tim Hudak is on the rightful track, however, he won't get elected given the latest poll numbers.
we will have to live through 4 more years of McGuinty tax grabs.
who knows how many new taxes and money grab excuses he will come up with in the next 4 years.
when he and his Humpty Dumpty clown (Dwight Duncan) are done with the provice, we will be billions of $$ in deficit, with an arrogant, spoilt over fed public sector, and literally no industry, jobs or growth left in Ontario.

we will be like the far eastern provinces - dead as a doornail.

please do not forget to watch the leader's debate tomorrow night at 6:30 PM EST.
right now the Libs and PCs are in a dead locked with about 32% support each and NDP i s around 24%.
so we might be looking at a minority gov.

the leaders debate could be crucial in swinging even a small % of vote such as 2 or 3% can also be significant if it translates to seats.

the debate will be carried live by most TV stations such as CBC and CTV.

evaluate where you stand with respect to various issue and determine which party your views and opinions are most aligned with.

http://votecompass.cbc.ca/en

it is a very neat quiz. I really like it.

the questions are really very crisp, brunt and pointed, no politically correct bulls**t
it is interesting that many of the issues i raised here on this thread are direct questions on the quiz, such as Most provincial government workers are paid too much and The provincial government should treat French as any other minority language

you can even rate the leaders on a scal of 1 to 10.
I was glad to be able to rate Mcguinty as ZERO. too bad it doesn't have negative numbers.

give it a shot.
