Hi BigHead,

I am a IT worker. I am thinking of going for PR in canada. Is there of any use to going to the imm. consultant they charge 1.25 lakh for immig+settlement+placement assistance.

Will that be ok to fill the papers of my own.. Pls advice.

I'm not going to delete anything here. It is the responsibility of members to make sure they don't digress in a thread and go off on a tangent. I like to preserve discussions here in their original condition unless there is something totally out of line. We have digressed before and we will in the future too, I don't want to start redistributing threads myself.

Coming back to South Indian food can anybody tell me why despite a big Tamil population here in Toronto (both from India and S.Lanka), it is so difficult to find decent joints that have "authentic" dosas/uttapams/sambar/rasam?

I don't get this part. Sarvana Bhavan was great when it started. I remember visiting it about 10 days after it opened and the food was fantastic. I remember writing a review about this.

I went recently and was disappointed. The sambar sucked big time, it was like any other "dal" we make at home. And my Onion Rava masala dosa was soft instead of crispy. Didn't enjoy it at all. And it was not the only time, I haven't gotten that original feeling in the past 2/3 visits. Wonder what they did to the sambar.

One rest. I haven't tried here is Udipi on Gerrard. Anybody who's been there want to shed light on how the food there is?

I mentioned that earlied BL... The Sambhar and Rasam (esp) is very good. Its fairly spicy also, when compared with Madras Dosa Hut !

I'll take your word for it and check it out, hopefully this weekend. Will post my review afterward.

Rasam reminds me of Andhra palace in NJ again. They had absolutely fantastic Rasam there was always a filled pot in the corner with styrofoam glasses next to it. As soon as you walk into the restaurant you could place your order and help yourself to as much Rasam as you want. It was fabulous. Wasn't the cleanest or most elegant looking restaurant but the food was truly awesome. One of the very few reasons I miss the U.S.

I do hope someone listens to my prayers and starts something like that here in Toronto. God knows there's a HUGE market for good South Indian food here.

The sambar in saravana bhavan is always awful. Even once i did not like the sambar served there. It is indeed a great dissapointment. If you have food after 1.30 p.m. in Saravana Bhavan you will stop going there for ever . The food is hot, but it tastes very bad with some porition of the food burnt and very dry , kept in food warmer for over 4/5 hours after they are made. The masala is very dry, Kesari/Kitchadi/pongal tastes awful when served after 1.30 P.M. Never visit this restaurant after 1.30 P.M. The owner is never present there and no body to take care of the quality. The chef's from Madras do prepare good food but the local buffons dont know how to serve them and in the end they spoil Saravana Bhavan's reputation. The food is very expensive - we desi's cannot afford. The quantity is also very less. The Cashier and the host are quite arrogant. They think they are serving food free to all who visit there. I am still hoping to find a good South Indian Vegetarian Restaurant in Toronto.
