I am a Canadian Desi working here as an Engineer.... I am seriously planning to move back to India. Can anyone suggest how to find/ search a decent job in India?

I am a prospective immigrant to Canada and hence am a little anxious to know as to why you want to return to India? If the reason is not too personal, I'd appreciate it if you can enlighten me. As for finding a job in India, it works on the same concept as in the US. I'm able to give you contact details of the placement guys who are located in India. They typically would like to see you in person before pursuing further.

Please be prepared for the question why have you come back to India when the whole world wants to immigrate to North America.

I faced this question when I left USA in 1992 and came back to India. Spent 10 years and I'm back in Canada.

India offers you growth in your field. You can get fancy designation and salaries. The real question is whether you will be able readapt to the work style which is different than in Canada/USA? & whether your full skills will be utilized there.

Think 100 times before you take the decision, and involve your whole family in this decision. Once you decide do not look back. There are social and family issues, which you will not really appreciate now.

Try to get into companies like Hindustan Lever, Reliance who will assist you in relocation also. The salary would significantly differ if you negotiate from here or from India.

The best way is to visit India on a 2 month trip, meet all the consultants and get a feel for the same. Come back and negotiate from here. If you land there bag and baggage they will hammer you down on the salary & designation front.

Thanks a lot DK and Dr. Jani for your suggestions. DK there is nothing personal in this decision, Somehow I feel that in Canada ,being a brown colored immigrant you have limitations in your career growth. You will find too much racial discrimination in this country, which prevent you to achive your career goals. My personal e.mail is, feel free to write me if you have any question.

Dr. jani, yes you are right. I must think 100 time before I take any decision. If I will take any decision that would be well researched and well informd too.

Hi Biomed,
I have met quite a few who have mentioned that you will face racial discrimination. I have never felt that way in the better jobs. Yes at the lower end I have experienced it too. Since the past 5-6 years I have even forgotten the fact that I am of a different race than my work colleagues. Maybe I am just lucky. I'm wondering if others here have an opinion onthis issue.

You may not feel discriminated in day to day life. But when it comes to promotion or salary the discrimination is very much visible in all the big organizations. These harsh realities have been accepted in various published reports including Stat Can reports. A colored immigrant gets around 40% less in comparison with his white counterpart. You won’t find many colored people in higher administrative positions too.

I am living in Canada since last 6 years and fortunately working with an American Global Giant (# 1 Global Company as per Forbes magazine), unfortunately this company is also not an exception when it comes to discrimination.

All of my peers and well qualified professional friends also feel in same way and because of this majority of them tend to get out of this country.

I have to agree with Jake. I've been in Canada for over 3 years and have never really experienced racism. Not in restaurants, not at border posts and definately never at work. Sure, I've seen some rude people (very few of that too), that I've seen those in India as well.

And I personally know some Indians in very good posts (Managers, Directors, CEOs etc.)

I was in the U.S. prior to coming to Canada. South of the border, although I never experienced racism at work, it was evident when you went to a cinema or a restaurant. Even at work, you were always conscious of race when speaking to your colleagues.

Not so in Canada. I've never even thought of race while speaking to goras or kalas. They mix as easily with you as do your own countrymen.

That's not to say that racism does not exist, however Canada is one of the most race-neutral countries I've seen.
