I just had a quick look at the statistic you referred to. Nothing wrong with that – the percentages being presented are cumulative (if you understand what that means……….)
I’ll second what BL just posted. Pretty similar situation here. I live in a condo complex too, and we have quite a few South Asian people that I see on the ride down the elevator in the morning. Amongst other things, if they can afford the rent / if they can afford to buy a unit, I figure they aren’t cleaning toilets for a living. I guess if I was to start my ‘sample survey’ I’d have to conclude that 80 - 90% of South Asians were doing very well here, but that would be an unreasonable conclusion…….
Taking cue from BL and Crenshaw
My desi social circle is quite big too...i'd guess about 50 ppl. I dont know a SINGLE person here who is unemployed. Except for one who is going back for personal reasons(has 20 cr worth ancestral property back in india), all of them like it here. They are in varied fields like IT, aeronautics, academics, business, genetic engineering, medicine, art etc.
By that logic I'd like to say that 100% desis are very happy with their lot in Canada AND are doing GREAT as far as jobs are concerned. Can I?

i absolutely agree with that those who have wel paid and good job back home they should not come to canada.

Well, in my circle almost 100% are not working in their field. Its 100% because I am talking about my workplace (a warehouse) . I dont have a circle as such outside.

Thanks for starting the success stories section . As much for as giving ur time n efforts to the forum which is much higher than ours .
However restricting ourselves to the discussion (and not argument) is it possible to have a poll of what CDs feel abt the prevailing situation .Rather than giving personals statistics (which may be good or bad) they can post their "observed" percentages of those doing good jobs and those otherwise . We have already crossed the 10K mark and a conscientious poll by the members will be a finding in itself .

Have you ever seen me quoting numbers/stats?I have always believed that statistical surveys and numbers can be really misleading at times. Give you an example:
A survey was conducted in a small town relating to family sizes and childbirth. The results showed that each man had 2.1 children while each woman had 1.7 children.
Do we derive that men have more children than women do? and if they do, I wonder how! (without the help of women?
