Hello CDs,
Someone somewhere along the line said that IIT isn't as good as it is made out to be. I think it was Teja Gill on another thread.
Please read this site:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/06/19/60minutes/main559476.shtml
Should I believe anybody on this forum or do Murthy and Khosla have better credibility value. All the same without this site and without either me or anybody else IIT fame has spread far and wide, so who are we kidding if we say it is not as good as purportedly reported.
BTW, Teja, are you by any chance an IItian?
Also does anybody know what happened to that hothead Makapao from IIT Mumbai and RIM?

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
Dear fellow CDs,
Even though I know there are several other (and better, in my opinion) articles on immigrants and jobs, what caught my eye about this is that the writer bears the same name as a fellow CD.
Will the person in question please let me and all here know if it is indeed him? I did not know that there were CDs who had articles published in mainstream papers!
Here is the article:
In The Media
Jul. 21, 2004.
CanadaImmigrants need action on jobs
Martin takes charge
It is excellent news that Prime Minister Paul Martin has vowed a hands-on approach on health, child care and cities, three main concerns for Canadians, and has appointed cabinet ministers to address these issues and resolve the inherent problems.
Martin should also take a hands-on approach in resolving the issue of unused and wasted talent of immigrant professionals, such as doctors, engineers, teachers and other vocations. The government should realize that it is harming the Canadian economy and its reputation as a land of opportunity for qualified professionals by letting such massive amounts of extraordinary talent lie idle, wasting away delivering pizzas, serving coffee, loading cargo.
All these professionals have come here, harking to the call of Canadian embassies and consulates overseas that Canada is in dire need of them, only to find they are rejected by Canadian companies. It is in the best interest of the government to take the initiative to round up all these professionals doing "transitional" jobs and have them showcase their talent to potential employers at a fair arranged by the government, much like employers visit university campuses for new employees.
Such forums should be held monthly in all fields. This would be a first step in making it easier for qualified professionals to meet potential employers. Going through agencies and directly to companies has so far produced poor results. Also, massive campaigns touting the work ethic and integrity of new immigrants should be undertaken. Even though a few Canadian companies do appreciate the knowledge and work ethics of immigrants, a program to educate the large number of uninformed companies that immigrants really are knowledgeable and serious about their work should be implemented.
It is about time that some positive action is taken by the government. Let the government we have chosen show us its stuff to help both its economy and the immigrants.

I'm still here; have been reading on and off intermittently.Good to see you sticking up for the top schools of India. They are many times better than Canadian schools.
At RIM, I am paraded around as the wonder boy from IIT-Mumbai. I am now in S'pore (have learned satu, dua tuga ampat lima...) and here also the company is modelling me off as the brain from IIT! Really has its perks! Actually that's what landed me the job in my lap, the fact that I am from IIT.
Will be back in Canada soon. Back to dreary Waterloo.
Are you still around Teja? Don' t see many of your posts. Of late there is a person by the name of crenshaw who is hogging the limelight. Making one hell of a case for Canada.
Though I did swear not to come back to write on CD, I did this just once as somebody invoked my name. But then , bloody ruddy hell, promises are made to be broken!
Shri Chandreshji, hope you find something to suit you soon. Seems like the majority on this site have great regards for you.
Always a
Dubai hater (even though I schooled there for many years and worked there as well. My father used to live there)
Hey Makapao,
Welcome back, dude. Good to have you back.
Btw, What dept. are you with in RIM? I used to work across the street at Pixstream in good ole Wtrloo at one point and actually know a couple of Java guys at RIM who're desi. Never know, we may have some common friends.

Are you there?
