If it was just a matter of paying the fine (cuz you made a mistake), sure I think most people would agree. Problem is this system of double punishment, where you first pay the fine, then pay (sometimes ridiculously) higher insurance premiums. In my opinion, the latter has little if any justification as no actual claim has happened and one ticket does not really constitute significant risk as it by no means signifies that you break the law and endanger others by habit. The insurance companies just need an excuse to milk you for more money for something they "percieve" may happen. Talk about crying over spilt milk that hasn't been spilt yet

To add insult to injury, even if the prosecution drops the "demerit point" (demerit point? what's this? grade school?), that's not good enough for the leeches. The very fact that you indeed did get a ticket is good enough for a premium hike. No room for benefit of doubt here
