Hi All

I recently recieved a speeding ticket (20km/hr above the limit) and this is my first ever offence in Canada. Its a 3 demerit offence and the ticket is for $75 fine. I want to know will this result in my insurance premium increase?

I read somewhere that this might not result in insurance increase since this is a 1st ever offence but I am not sure about it. I am thinking of hiring one of those traffic ticket paralegal lawyers but they dont come cheap. Also the cop told me that I have 15 days to decide what to do. What is my next step?

Always try and fight the ticket no matter the situation. Most times when you get to the court there's a backlog of cases so you can just plea guilty, pay the $75 and lose no demerit points which is the most important thing.

I have never done it personally but I know friends that have.

Good luck.

I am in same boat.
i get ticket befoer 45 days ago for Fail to stop at red light 3 dermit point and 175$ fine.

I just go to court and regiter for the fight the case on me. bcos this is my first ticket . i will fight bcos it may benifit and not loss more then written on ticket.

but normally you will get court date notice within 2 months and actual appearnace date after three to 4 months

you can also extent the date after once get so you get moer two months.....

many good thread are in this formum just go through that.

for first timer chances are good to wave point and reduce the fine.

how can we know that ticket has dermit point,
bcos my ticket is for fail to stop at red light fine 185 but there is nothing return on ticket about the 3 dermit point but as per law it's show 3 dermit point for that offense.

my date for court is on jan 11 2008 , i will try to extend the date.....if anybody have idea how to extend date tell me.

this is wat u do
go to the court..tell em ur pleading not guilty.
they will send u a letter with a date to appear in court...
do not go the first time...try sending somebody else on behalf of u...
the judge will give u a second date...dont take the date that the cop says....try to get the different once...
u can do the same next time if u want
there are chances cop want show up..and u wont have to pay anything..and u wont loose points.

I would request a slight change to above strategy :

Instead of not showing up on that date, go with a friend. If the cop is missing, present yourself. If the Cop is present, send your friend inside to request another date since you could not make it due some last minute engagement.

All the best.

dhshpatel:

the real question is: why are u driving through red lights?????????????.. not how to get out of paying a ticket or getting a demerit.

you could cause an accident or worse. Please drive more carefully...
