Anand was very upset until he received your praise "a few weeks back".
Each sports person has his best of times and fades away (except perhaps the God). Ramesh was one such example who faded away. Neither was his cricketing career had to be kept alive on ventilator, nor was he indifferent to the vicissitudes of the game. Lucky that he did not have to be compared to any 5th division league player to prop up his image.

P.S .... i was playing "teen pati" with a couple of goras yesterday .... i won ..... does that make me a sportsmen of "international repute"

Why BCCI team frequently under performs
That players for the BCCI team are not selected as the best of the best “from” different zones, but get nominated by the zonal selectors, everyone knows but nobody wants to discuss about. With ref. to the following news item, may be Rohit Sharma got nominated for Mumbai/West Zone since Sachin Tendulkar opted out.
The result is some of the financially weak states may have their players discarded or on the bench even though they may be the best. The following news item points to the problem, as to why BCCI team frequently under performs, even though we may have many great players claiming to represent the entire nation. There is no compulsion to do their best every time they go out, but an attitude seems to have crept in that it was enough, that they need come good once in 5 or10 matches, whether their team loses or needs a win.
Apart from this it really takes some guts on the scribe to write an unbiased report for or against these “IPL powered" players and which the journalists rarely do. They only shout from rooftop supporting an under performing player who gets dropped finally.

“All eyes on Rohit Sharma”
PTI report from Colombo
“Skipper Mahindra Singh Dhoni is not very fond of tinkering with his playing XIs but he now seriously needs to think about how many more chances Rohit Sharma deserves in order to prove that he is a regular match winner like Virat Kohli or even fairly consistent on sub-continental tracks, like Suresh Raina.
The Mumbai batsman has scores of 1 & 0 in the first 2 matches (of the current series) where he was out in identical fashion, chasing a delivery away from his body to be played on. Rohit has scored a meager 156 runs from his last 10 ODI innings.
He has been one of the few players in recent times who has had plenty of chances, but has failed to deliver on most of the occasions.
Rohit’s replacement is ideally Manoj Tiwary, incidentally would like to forget that he has been benched for 14 consecutive matches despite being fit and available, after scoring his maiden ODI century.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------
In the 3rd match, Rohit was out to a first ball duck, leaving his side in a precarious position, having to score 90 odd runs with 5 wickets gone and in about 15 overs. Suresh Raina and Irfan Pathan steered the side home in the last over.
In the 4th ODI he could be seen throwing the ball neither to bowler nor to the keeper but "stylishly" into no man's land behind himself, allowing the SL batsman an over throw run.

Yesterday, happened to see on Ten Cricket, the list of Top Ten batsmen stats, from successful run chases (min 50 matches). We had Dhoni topping the list and Stephen Fleming the tenth, with people like Clarke, Lara in between. God' name nowhere to be seen
