http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-Pakistani_War_of_1965
a brief outline of the events.
Yes there were movies about the war., most of Manoj kumar movies had this war as the backdrop., !! Songs like "yeh mere watan ke logon" ., "kar chaley hum fida" ., We had fought wars in quick succession., one in 1961 against china and then with pak in 1965 ., pak and china were close allies and helped eachother during the wars.... after we had lost the indo-chinese war in 1961-62 ., pakistan had tried a similar one with us,. but, we amazingly were well prepared this time to fight them off...
anyway., we will miss few things..., Takshashila an ancient university which spawned Chanakya is in pakistan as taxila ... and one of holiest places for every hindus ., the kailash manasarovar is in china !!!
We will never get them back unless we become insurgents which we wont !!!

there was a time when we had lahore under our belt when they called truce and accepted defeat., we being the greatest souls on the earth accepted that and let them have some of our area too... !!! I cant substantiate these facts., but, my pops is an avid follower of these events as he was also in the defense department..
What went on then was that India would have overrun Pakistan all the way till Islamabad, and beyond.
More than Pakistan, it was the United States that was worried.
They got together with the USSR and pressured India to accept the truce and withdraw.
This was the '65 war.
Is there any bollywood movie on 65 war??

For those who wish to do some serious study and find out more about the 1962 Indo-China war, the following recent review is available on the net-
http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~johnston/garver.pdf
The review is based on several publications from China after 1990 and official release of classified documents by the Indian Govt. in 2002. The publication is an eye-opener and a must read.

Well., I did know about Nehruji crying over the song "yeh mere watan ke logon" .., but, I was under the impression that it was for the indo-pak war..., OTOH , I should have guessed it coz, Indo-pak war was in 1965 and Nehruji had passed away before that... !!! my mistake.
Anyway., Manoj kumarz upkaar was on the backdrop of Indo-pak war and "jai jawaan jai kisaan" slogan coined by Lal bahadur shashtri. Similar one would be Dev Anandz Prem ***** (probably poojari or shashtra) ., I saw the movie when I was a kid and they show Dev Anand fighting off pak soldiers who enter their village in punjab.., some "old guys" out there can confirm this. I am not aware of any movie solely based on this war.., incidently we had won this war convincingly !!! There was a series on DoorDarshan called "param vir chakra" which gave enough details of these wars and its heroes...
Anyway., does anyone have links to the transcript of president Kalam's speech on the eve of republic day ??? Please share.,
