Furthermore women are mostly at the recieving ends of such bad deals...often under physical and mental abuse. Not a +ve lesson for a child...be the child a boy(who may carry on like his dad) or a girl(who may end up taking such shit from her own hubby/bf/partner).
Ofcourse there is always hope that the child will decide never to settle for such, when it comes to his/her own relationships.
I dont think there are any guarantees of the marriage going well...desi or not. When it comes to desis, I know of more friends back in mumbai who are divorced, than here(obviously i'm not talking about the older gen). Two of them happen to be women, who initiated the divorce. I dont think its a bad thing either.

One advantage I feel of marrying someone within your own community/country is that the person's values would mirror your own more closely; I am of course talking of situations where you meet someone and not an arranged marriage.
I am talking in a broader sense, and not of unique situations.
I just feel that the chances of having a longer lasting marriage are better with an Indian girl/guy, especially once the 'wow' factor wears off.
This may seem like stereotyping but it appears as though the majority of westerners do not value the sanctity of marriage the way we do.
