1. Why don't you speak Punjabi, Hindi, you're Indian?
2. Why don't you dress in traditional clothes?
3. Why don't you eat curry?
4. Why are you dating these Gori/Gora? You should find a nice Indian boy/girl and get married.
Well, some of us don't speak Punjabi, Hindi, because our parents didn't teach us, because they felt there was no point. Since we live in Canada, there hasn't been any need to speak it except when we try to integrate into our own community where we're rejected because we don't speak the language, and where people will deliberately not speak English (even though they can) and ensure that we feel insulted and further isolated.
We don't wear traditional clothes because we're not used to them, not comfortable in them, often don't know HOW to wear them (saris) and this climate is not the best place to wear that type of clothing except perhaps in the summer time.
We eat curry when we go to a place where the person actually knows how to cook it! We don't, and when we do it usually turns out gross. No, most of us will not eat green raw chilis because we're not used to them.

An apartment I have lived in the past had atleast 25-30 seniors (couples)...They said once a year is all they get to see their grandkids if they are lucky. So it is not my opinion........I call that reality. And these are people who can barely walk and stand up and stink from the smell of their own urine and waste. My heart cries out for them.........but you can go on defending the point you are making this does not happen and oh if it does the % is very very small and who says this does not happen in other parts of the world right, and also the classic i know a lot of seniors myself and they are all well cared for their family.

I read my post about 20 times and I still dont see where the socalled homophobia of mine lies. A simple statement it was and you with your ingenuity are twisting it.
. Yes, I take that back...i guess that was my prejudice.-----------------------------------------------------------------

Azazf, you are pretty much reflecting everything that we have been talking about here. What makes you think that Canadians don't look after their parents? Because you've seen one place where the parents are alone?
Well, I've seen many cases where the parents are well looked after by their Canadian children and many situations where Indian parents are abused, their pensions are taken away leaving them with nothing!
My mother-in-law suffered a serious stroke and can only move her right hand, all of her children, including my ex have abandoned to her to a seniors home where my sister in law visits her once a week for a couple of hours.
The rest of the time she sits, the nurses dress her in canadian clothes, and make her watch english tv. She doesn't speak a word of English.
Is this the wonderful way that our community looks after its' elderly? There are many cases like this not just one.
My point is that there are Canadians and Indians who refuse to take responsibility and when they do it's because they have their own agenda to take advantage of the elderly.
And there are Canadians and Indians who do look after the elderly responsibly and with the love, respect and attention they deserve.
Please stop making racist assumptions about people.
Dating is a Canadian tradition, and for those of you who don't know. The purpose of dating is to take the time to get to know someone and make a mutual decision on whether you are compatible or not and whether this is the person that you want to make a commitment to. It has nothing to do with escorts. Going to clubs and dancing is just a form of entertainment here and escorts don't frequent any of the clubs I go to.
Everything in this world requires moderation and common sense whether you are following Indian or Canadian traditions or both!
