Why not? It's perfectly OK to be intolerant in Pakistan, Saudi, Afganistan, Iraq...and zillion other Islamic states where minorities are treated with extreme Violence. But, 'we need the very best of freedoms, opportunities and tolerance from non-islamic countries'…Right?

So why move to Canada .... if you want to live in intolerant societies, then you should live in one.

I also belive in god and when i want my son to learn about my faith, i take him to Gurughar or temple but privately, i never demand some special prayers in school or any other radical demands.
so Live and let live, do not bother others for your personal faith- so simple.

well these kids never demanded special thing in school. They are praying in vacant space when no one is using cafeteria. They are not forcing other faith student to come join them.

You and people like you insight hatred and you know it but vomitting here your venom nothing will happen.

Should it mean that the school boards should have prayer or comparable sessions for Hindus, Sikhs, Jews, Buddhists, etc, etc? There has to be a limit. Once again, no one is stopping anyone from praying. Just not at taxpayer's expense.
If this is so important in public schools, let there be a "Prayer Room" or "Reflections Room" such as the ones available at Detroit Airport or at one of my former workplaces. Whoever wants to pray can go there and do whatever regardless of religion and it is available and open for everyone on their own time, money and effort on a common basis.

Certainly ... if other religious groups have prayer as a fundamental part of their faith then why not. It is not that hindus or jews or sikhs have asked for this right and have not been given.

I think the concept of prayer room or reflection room is good and it will free the cafetaria for the purpose it was built for.

dudewheresmycar has a point in intolerance/tolerance. Canada is different from the above noted countries that makes us great and hence we should not be the way like those countries.

Again, we are digressing from the point whether schools need to be secular or not.

I think the whole issue has been digressed.

The issue here is that a taxpayer funded institution cannot grant special privileges to any identified group, especially considering that Canada is a secular country. The excuses given are poor and weak. For example, Cafeteria is used for the prayer. Now what about the right of students who simply want to have coffee during that time and wants to use the cafeteria?

Would school board allow a Catholic priest to come and preach Christian students on daily basis?

The excuse, again is that Muslims are mandated to prey five times a day. Nobody surveyed or asked whether on weekends these same students pray 5 times or whether their parents pray 5 times a day. The larger issue is that there are so many things mandated in Koran. How far a school of mixed children go to accommodate one faith while not allowing the other faiths same privilege?

I am sure that a reasonable analysis of whole issue would point out that one’s personal faith should remain private and not flaunted in public as such a behaviour has disastrous results in long run.

Another interesting aspect is that no one is monitoring what is being preached. I am sure that most version of Koran contains so many passages which preach hate of other religions. Does anyone monitor the teaching to ensure that only good message of Koran is taught and not the hate?

There certainly are private schools where Muslim students can go and learn about their religion.

As regards Catholic school, it seems that there is some misunderstanding. Catholic schools are going back 150 years when Canada was 100% Christian (Though not entirely Catholic). Catholic faith has opened schools since hundred of years in all parts of the world. Further, these days catholic schools do not preach Catholic faith. Also, I am sure that from standard 8th onwards, admission is open to students of all faiths. I did not send my daughter because the most girls wear tiny/mini school skirts and peer pressure is so huge that one is forced to wear that kind of skirts. Further, public school was good.

Not to digress from the issue, I bet there would not be a SINGLE political party who would oppose the prayers during class hours in this particular school. Some one posted a comment saying that Mcguinty has already endorsed the idea. I am equally sure that NDP would also support the idea of prayers for Muslim students. I guess some one should ask Hudak the question though I am sure he would mumble something soothing but would not stop this. The only institution, which can stop this practise, is a court. But as I said before, no judge would dare doing anything that is politically incorrect because superior courts and politicians closely monitor their judgements. Politically incorrect judgements would block their promotions and ruin their career.

As I said before, it is high time that you read “America Alone” which has explained in details the scenario that is going to unfold in Europe and Canada- how these countries would be under Islamic rule or under Islamic influence- and at the same time has explained how America is the only country which has a slim chance to stand alone and defend values of freedom. ( I am sure that the author had not imagined Obama assuming power and do things which would endanger America’s freedom in long run)

The book has explained in detail by giving detailed statistics how the western world would become unrecognizable after 40 years. I guess most of us do not read that because no one likes to confront bitter reality. That is the reason Bollywood movies are popular because it provides temporary relief by taking you in the world of fantasy.

I really appreciate the smart ways of Muslim organizations and their sense of achieving goal. They never waver from their goal. For example, they use political correctness prevalent in judicial systems , political arena and press and advance their cause. They have tremendous sense and deication of achieving their goals. Arab spring, in most cases is a dispute between majority Shia population and minority Sunni rulers. Shia and Sunny fight world over, but they would not fight against each other in India or USA as they know that they can derive much political mileage by remaining united.

The prayers and preaching in scool is the first salvo. They are testing the water. If they succeed, as they are likely, then the idea would be replicated
