Age doesnt matter , it is the will that counts.

While we have hundreds of examples about how people suffer after a certain age, I'd like to relate the career of a person whose approach to life inspired me deeply.

This person was a colleague of my father in Delhi who got his immigration at the age 45 in 1990, 2 kids age 18 and 16 and a wife who never worked before. 15 years ago he was in a dilemma, at that time he said he only wants his kids to go and he wants to retire in india ...but also wanted the family to stay as one unit. Earning in india and supporting kids in US was a big challenge as well. So they sold their possessions and took the plunge.

We used to hear from them from time to time, that they are trying to fit and and settle down etc . Last year when my father was visiting me in US , we traced him down ....now at age 60 he looked happier than we had ever seen him before . Both kids settled one is Dentist another an Engineer and husband and wife living independently closeby. The real shocker came when he told us what he did for living,
he is a practicing dentist as well!!

How did he do it? well, after one year of struggling in jobs here and there his wife got a stable job and took loans and got into their prefferred courses of studies.
The father and youngest son took admission together in the dentists course....he told they were the one of its kind case in college with father and son in the same clas,no one had ever done before and he said that the 4-5 yrs were a big struggle but in retrospect a very enjoyable time they had here together as a family ....now his kids are married and settled , he started working in a dental office now has his own clinic ....today at age 60 he is having a time of his life . paid back his loans , makes very good money and takes long vacations to india during winters.

Did they suffer during their struggle in the initial years ? , for sure, big time ...but i found their struggle very different and inspiring and so i related it here . We all were struck and admired his guts and strong will and vision during tough times.

Age doesnt matter , it is the will that counts.

Hey Mishter India,

great work. we should post these kind of success stories more often. Hats off to that gentleman and his family. YES, it sure is a struggel in the initial few years, but that should not dampen your courage and will to succeed. It's my opinion.

God Bless All.

:)

What struck me in his case was the courage he had to take up a long and tedious course in mid 40s....even teenagers say it takes too long to complete a medical degree what to talk about grownup taking a medical course.

At his age he doesnt need much money and probably if he had not taken up his new profession, his kids would have still settled well, but he gave a different kind of vibe , the kind of person who would explore all possibilities , it only takes to try out what works and what doesnt.

One common thing in him was that even in tough times in india he always seemed upbeat and energetic about trying new things . And for him his attitude surely worked.

Different strokes for different folks.

It is really a story someone should can take inspiration from but in actual situation this type of thing happens once in thousands. May be I would like to write a story like this 10-15 years later if everything goes fine.

A truly inspiring real life story which is worth emulating. Reminds me of the old proverb which says where there is a will there is a way.

Mishtar India saheb your posts are so encouraging to read, like a beacon of light on a dark stormy night to all new immigrants.

I salute your enthusiasm and I would like to remind all my friends here who succeed in Canada that one of the ingredients of their success story will be thanks to Canadiandesi.com.

GG, BL, Chandresh, Biomed, Mishtar India and all other senior desis your good work shall not be forgotten in the times to come. Please keep it UP.

Thanks and regards,

Nikhil

Well i agree that it is rare that someone would go to the same college as their kids but is success really a one in a thousand thing ?

If we look at ourselves, we all represent some form of success or the other....success is all relative ....to a person who has been yearning all his life to come out of india ...for him every immigrant is a successful person ....for a fresh immigrant any person with any job is successful ...to a person with a job a person with better job and probably a house is bigger success.

isint is surprising that no matter what we achieve we all think of success as something that we dnt have.

I think if we just enjoy the privilege that we have to make new beginnings for ourselves, we will feel successful all along....life is a struggle .... whether we take its struggles smilingly or with a frown , this is a concious choice we all make for ourselves....and that is what will define what kind of life we live.
