As i mentioned earlier, I have grown up in a canadian school system and there is NO encouragement to have sex "anytime with anyone". In fact, there is a lot of emphasis on abstinence (which is waiting to have sex when you are married)

But isn't it true that telling a kid/teenager not to do means that they have to do it. The more the emphasize on it, the more curosity increases???

Both had faith.
It took more than 15 years for my mother to overcome the "I-miss-my-home-town" feeling. But today they are proud of their decision.
That is my inspiration.

I moved 15000 KMs. I have already learned my lesson. I have faith.
I don't expect this a smooth move. It's gonna take time.

Thanks for sharing this.
My parents (who are educated) moved in the early 70's - a year before I was born. I never grew up hearing my parents blame canada for anything.
I believe they became successful because they were also entrepreneurial.

"if life hands you lemons, make lemonade" is what they taught me.

I agree that even moving towns in the same country can make one homesick. :)

Like a no-win situation?

Wouldnt fear of punishment just drive a teenager to keep quiet about their curiosities and encourage development of misconceptions? It wont discourage feelings and curiosity.

I remember an anthropology text mentioning a community somewhere in Africa (I dont remember exactly) which encourages sexual experimentation so that marriage is not based on sexual desire, but on other qualities.

What punishment?? Why do we have punish???
The only thing I am saying is do not keep on putting things in their heads. The more they see and can visualize by seeing condoms in school, teachers etc talking about it day and night, naturally u r asking for it.

It's like the US. Kids are born hearing about guns and naturally u see so many problems relating to gun incidents. So then we do we blame the US for that???

So you are advocating the head in the sand approach? That'll work. I've seen it work for some parents when I was in india. The kids otoh...its a different story.

Punishment = fear of parental disapproval/ family shame/ being kicked out of the house if discovered or become pregnant etc etc etc. Punishment is a subjective word.

logically if talking about sex causes people to have it, then by talking about dowry does it cause people to give it and demand it?

I think if someone is going to have sex..guess what..condom or no condom they will go ahead and do it. On the other hand, I remember being a teenager and someone got a hold of a condom once and amid a fit of giggles we friends filled it up with water to see how much it could hold. It stretched like a balloon! I suppose you could say that we were misusing a condom

:D

LOL.

What is a bit baffling is that the people who are conservative seem to be overly obsessed about their kids having or not having sex.

Hey, sex is an important part of ones identity. You treat it like something dirty it will become the same.
