I got a speeding ticket in March 2009 in and have hearing in court in Jan 2010. This is my first ticket and have no idea how to deal with it. I heard that if police officer who issued this ticket doesnt show up in the court then it will be waived automatically.. is it true?? should I take legal advise or hire a lawyer? What is reasonable amount to pay them?

I need guidance from CD members. Thanks a lot in advance.

-- Yes.

-- Unless you believe that you were not speeding, hiring a lawyer/paying for legal advise is waste of money.

the first option is that if the police officer doesnt show up, then the tkt is waived off completely. if he shows up, then the prosecutor gives u option to plead guilty with 15km/hr over the speed limit and no points deducted (if your tkt says overspeeding of 16-29km/hr), then you have to pay around 50-60 bucks. If your speed was more than 30 km/hr over the limit, then u might not be given that option.

Thanks Ajaydeepak

Please clarify if its between 16-29 overspeed that just by paying $50 to $60 issue will be resolved? I mean no demerits point and effect in insurance? how does it work? I cant see my overspeed on my ticket so I am assuming it must be between 16-29.
