Depends on *what* kind of TV you wish to buy.
The fancier the TV, the better deals you can get at different times.
For "basic" TVs, there isn't that much difference during "normal" times and "deal" times.

For instance, if all you need is a 27" - 32" regular screen TV of a standard brand (Sony, Toshiba, Phillips, etc.) you won't find a super duper deal by waiting till Christmas or NY.

However, if you need one of those widescreen, LCD, rear-projection, high-definition, 62" TVs, then you should wait for the big sales of the year, which are typically around Christmas and NY.

One thing I've noticed is that the deals you get in the states beat the Canadian ones hands down. No matter what you're shopping for.

Canada sucks for shopping when compared to the states. Both in price and selection.

I can't believe it, et tu, BL???!! Has all the negativity in this site finally caught up with you too? :(

OK, you may not get as many great deals as in US. Some items are more expensive, and there is the 14% tax in BC (I know it is 15% in ON), but our shopping experience has so far been reasonably ok here.

I don't think this reflects negativity - to me, this is a statement of fact and I feel the same way.
I think most (maybe not all, but most) immigrants who have previously lived in the US will agree with this.

Another similar thing that I miss a lot compared to the US is travel deals.
In the US, there were so many great travel deals to be had, both for flights, hotels, package tours, etc.
If you watched out for deals and knew how to work out the permutations and combinations, you could travel in great style for a very limited amount of $$$

Agreed Pratickm, I was just kidding! BL is one of the most die-hard optimists and the strongest supporters of Canada I have seen in this forum! To hear the word "sucks" coming from him was kind of surprising, though! :)

I know the deals with shopping, travel, cell phones, gas prices etc aren't as good as in the US, but being an optimistic newbie here, I just like to believe that overall life is as good, if not better in Canada!!

Yes, you're right, as always, about the flight deals too. I miss that here.
