Tourist,
Thanks for the info.. Many many CD architects/ draftspeople are without jobs in Ontario. You posts are an inspiration to all darftspeople here.
My storey is quite similar. 6 months of labour work. I am in this office for 3 years. Initailly things were great. he started me with $10 an hour. As time went by , work became boring. The same work for 3 years now. No vareity. No job oppertunities anywhere in the GTA (as i know it). I then came to the decision that Architecture in the GTA was stupid. Just getting by.
Could you put a kind of salary to people of your experience in BC? And is work in Vancouver due to the Winter olympics or is it general boom time?
I know an architect unemployed for 3 years in the GTA but got an intern architect position in Vancouver and relocated.
In the GTA , contract drafting work is advertised at $18-$20 an hour but none get it.
your views please

Hi TK

I admire you for keeping same job for three years. I am just curious
whether you may register in the local technologists' association as a
member. Once you register as a professional you may have some
kind of professional liability insurance. Just my thought.

Hi,
I am not part of any Technologist association. All these associations cost you money and is of no use. For any insurance, you need to pay the premium.
After careful thought, I have found out a way to escape if the employer files legal action against me. I canot share that personal view in a public board but if you would like to know, PM me. Thanks for all people who have stated to me that an employer canot legally take action against me, an employee for any wrong work that i have done since i was supposed to work under the support and guidance of my manager/ boos.

Hello guys!
Tomorrow i am having a meeting with the client in whose project i made a mistake at 9:30 am. I will not discuss the house that i made a mistake. I am trying to see the builder's (client) son and discuss with him this issue personally.
Tomorrow's meeting is regarding the progress on the project. Me, my boss and manager will meet with the client and his authorised reps.. I saw the summary of the work done by me and it is not good. The client is looking for 100 % completion where as i have done only 50%. The problem was that my boss told me to concentrate on other projects too.
There will be a lot of bad word usage (Let call this , speaking in French) tomorrow and i donot know what to do. Should i take his insults personally or should i take it jovially? i am not sure. I am a consultant now and with that i donot know what rights i will have. Already, i have made up my mind that even if i lose this job that i should not feel sad.

I assume that while accepting that "another project" you should have made your mgr aware of the fact that this could cause delay in current project.
If working on other projects caused delay in this project, it's lack of resource planning - falls under the Manager's domain.

Nothing personal, it's all business.
If someone did'nt did a good job, it's the team. Never an individual. (well, ultimately the blame flows down to the last person in the food-chain ;) )

Try your best. Even if you end up loosing your job, then it for good - you and your company were not ment for each other. Why worry ?

It can help with employment opportunities to be a member of a professional organization. You can also request mentorship services etc.

If you decide you would like to continue to be..what appears to be..cynical about everything. Then you are more than 50% responsible for your current situation.

my 0.02 cents.

Isnt it the individuals responsibility to advise their manager that they cannot handle all the projects at once? Yes ..it can also be a time management issue but cant you ask the boss to delegate the project to someone else?

Secondly...i cant believe how unprofessional clients/manager etc can be to insult/swear or take it. I dont think you should be analysing "should I take it personally or jovially" I think you should be assertive and ask that there be no name calling in this professional meeting. Be professional. Explain that an error was made and then offer some solutions to rectify the situation.

Somebody has to make the first move to change things . If you know its wrong..then you change it.
