Canada believes in equality of all irrespective of your caste, age, sex, education, work back home, etc. So they do not recognize your degrees and experience! You can see doctors, lawyers, accountants, engineers, rocket scientists, professors, and all others working in factory doing labour jobs! You will also find with them those who have not completed their high school or secondary education doing same jobs. So you are equal. No other country in the world can boast of such highly skilled labour work force.
Ok, jokes apart, I came to Canada for money but there seems to be none! For people who have high income, it is also high taxes!

Canada...another name for struggle in life!
I DON'T KNOW WHY I AM HERE. I AM FROM SINGAPORE. AND I AM DOING LABOUR JOBS NOW AFTER 6 MONTHS OF FINDING NOTING IN MY IT FIELD. YES THIS COUNTRY NEEDS SKILLED LABOURERS.
EVERYWHERE YOU GO, YOU SEE LABOURERS.
I AM OUT OF HERE AND GOING BACK TO SINGAPORE NEXT MONTH. NOW I WILL APPRECIATE MY COUNTRY EVEN MORE. WHAT'S IN CANADA, NOTHING.
For me, it's quality of life. Vancouver - 3rd best city to live in the world only beaten by Geneva and Zurich. Toronto - 15th best city even after the SARS summer!! That says it all..
So, in my opinion, if one wants quality of life and a democratic country to live in which respects free speech and thoughts..it'd be Canada..if one doesn't care about these things or it is not a priority but wants/needs money then it's south of the border. Plenty of money there, but quality of life and freedom/equality might have to be sacrificed.
As for back home, too much competition there. Too many people, but not enough vacancies for everyone so some have to go elsewhere, either here, US, Europe, Australia, SE Asia...
Cheers
The catch for many desi's and Pakistani's... even moany europeans, etc to America and Canada is the glamourafied version. I think the media is a HUGE influence on this. I watch more and more hindi movies and see them becoming westernized just as the society has back home.
We talk about progress in India?
Perhaps, but there is more to me whereas progress is concerned than a McDonalds or club in India.
I would consider a HUGE reduction in poverty, corrpution, etc in India PROGRESSION. Anything else to me is simply face value.
Canada is a beautiful country and has the proud title of the worlds most culturally diverse country. The attitude and environment here is just amazing.
That being said, it is not perfect.. nor is it an easy life unles syou were born with a golden sppon in your mouth. In which case, you may have it easy regardless of where you are int he world.
I miss India (came here in 1989), but dont miss it enough to move back...
HELL NO! lol
I'ma stay here.. find me a desi princess and make lots o babies lmao
I agree with the last post .......tho not on the princess part.
Even tho my views are well known thru other threads, I'd like to point some major reasons out on why i decided to move to Canada.
1. better conditions, better opportunities. Not just in career but opportunities in every front. ....like even without a developing a strong career one can still lead a lifestyle better than one could build in india. like get a better house, car and still pay it off with not the best of the jobs...etc. better educational opportunities...not just for kids but for oneself as well...etc
2. Greater stability and and acceptability than many other countries. Unlike living on work visas in other countries, one gets a chance to start a new life on a much stronger footing by being a permanent resident and later become a citizen if one wants. In middle east or even europe for that matter getting accepted as one of their own is next to impossible.
there are many more factors which influenced my decision, but these two were the biggest.

What can be imagined, can be achieved.

There are many reasons why one would decide to immigrate to Canada. I am looking at it from an Indian point of view. Below are the reasons:
Better education in Canada
No Donation system
No Influence or political clout used as frequently as it is used inIndia for Admissions, Jobs etc
Better medical facilities
Better police systems, local authorities and local administrative bodies
Better infrastructure in Canada (Bad roads in India, even in big cities)
Less population density as compared to India
Better Human and Animal Rights in Canada
Better lifestyle in Canada
Need I say more?
I have applied in Dec 2001 (They started processing in Jan 2002). So I am yet to reach there.
