Cool it guys ,
Pleeeeeeeeeease .......... not again .
I appreciate ur wisdom and viewpoints . But kindly think from the point of view of a newcomer/other readers who read this thread . This one to one argument won't serve much for others .
How about discussing this off the thread ? Hey what was the thread about ?
:P
Manasvi.
Well, I am not a hardcore mumbai guy and I have worked in places like Durgapur (Steel Authority of India Limited), Calcutta, Delhi, Pune, and now Mumbai.
Maybe you were too lucky in a row, considering the fact that you didn't have to face powercuts. Also, during winter, the power consumption drops (fans & AC's being switched off) and power cuts are less common during that time (Nov.-Feb.).
Maybe you can try your luck again by visiting during summer; and then it just might happen that you start supporting my theory..........
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You seem to have never moved out of Mumbai perhaps. And India is not only Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.
I was in my hometown in India this winter. No power cuts! I was in Jaipur for a week. No power cuts! I was in Bikaner and then in Jaisalmer. No power cuts!
So much for your theory that MUmbai is the only place with no power cuts!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I am pointing out is the stark reality........what made you think that I am venting my frustrations here.......
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I do not understand why this thread is being used by some to vent their frustrations with India. The OP was only about what salary it would take to make one want to return to India.

Well, you get 24/7 power supply only in Mumbai AND nowhere else in India.

When the income disparity between the classes have been reduced(for a cpl of generations) to the levels we see in North America. Then, I would probably move back.
How does reduction in the disparity between classes affect you? Does putting geographical distance between that disparity and yourself help you in any way?

Sipping martinis in an exclusive enclave while people live in plastic sheets , a stones throw away...<snip>
some(like me)
are more comfortable with the insulating effects of the oceans instead of gates, walls, barbed wire and tinted glass .
You mean you have “run away” because you couldn’t bear to sit and drink martini with poverty visible up close and your conscience made you feel bad about it. Now that you have the “oceans” between you and that very same poverty, your conscience feels better, eh?

Got offer from a bang lore firm for 13 lakh. Still I will not like to live in India. A healthy human development environment with abundance of gift from nature in terms of air , water & land is what life should be all about. You just cannot get that thing in India.
Really? Is there shortage of air in India? With Rs 1.1 lakh per month , you wouldn’t be able to manage clean drinking water for yourself? And, Rs 13 lakh per annum will is also not enough to get you a house to live in?

Manasvi - since you started this thread, how much, or what would make YOU return to India? Your location states Bahrain. So I presume you're planning to come to Canada some time soon.
And btw, DTC, like sumjo said, you have been fortunate to visit India during the months of Feb-March. I'm from the South, and where I come from, even now, there is a regular power-cut for 1 hour every day during the peak summer months! And water - that is a real problem, especially in summer.
Some of us are in Canada mainly for the money, while the rest of us are also after a better quality of life. Everyone has their preferences, which are right in their own way. BTW, every year, thousands of English people migrate to Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Do you think they migrate for the money?! So, let us not bring in the patriotism and the guilt trip here.
OK Manasvi, back at you - What kind of money will make YOU give up your Canadian dream and settle in India?
Salvo has boomeranged !!
Hmmm Canada definitely offers a better infrastructure and lifestyle. A more civilised society and more natural clean air /resources which India lacks .
India promises more career growth, job satisfaction living with ur own and experiencing Indianness something which v r born with .
I think a sal of INR 60K after taxes and a place like Bangalore / Pune can provide me with an equal tempting choice as coming to Canada .Anything over 80K I wud readily return 2 India concentrate on Technologies and Im sure world travel wont b far behind .
Its like having best of both worlds . Plus its slightly hard to trade ur built-over-the-years expereince and knowledge for uncertainity.
Manasvi.
PS :On the other hand if I get a CAD 60K Technical job in Vancouver..... period for me and not looking elsewhere.
I believe Manasvi has summed it very aptly giving both the pro's and con's and being objective rather than being one sided.
I would also like to highlight an article in todays times of india which states that quite a few IIM graduates are refusing offers from companies in London and New York, because they feel ( the IIM graduates ) India is a more rocking place as far as career opportunities are concerned, even though the offered salaries are much higher.

Light up your life by being positive
