Hi,

I have written a hundred times...but would be pleased to highlight it for 101st time for a good cause..........

Canada doesn't need Skilled Professionals it needs SKILLED LABOURS......

Its a political game that govt is playing by wooing qualified people....

When Oil boom started in Middle East they bought over five million Indians to Gulf to level the manpower shortage...But it was done on job to job basis.....

Engineers' vacancy is filled in by qualified Engineers....Foreman to Foreman....Welder to Welder....Helper to Helper...what ...even Housemaids were bought...only those found capable of doing household labour were selected.

What I wanted to say is that they did not offer Engineers job to a Welder or they did not ask a Micorbiologist to Reasearch scientist to drive cabs...

This is where CANADA HAS GONE WRONG..........

Hundreds and thousands of Software professionals have gone to US from Banagalore and other parts of India on H1B after being selected thro telephonic interview. Why didn't the US companies say they don't have US experience......

What I wanted to say is Canada should select individuals based on their capabilities....Knowledge and experience should be given preference...... 50 years back Technology and Science was accessible only to West. Now things have totally changed. Technology is accessible all over the world the same day......

Canadians should not live in a FALSE DREAM that they are the only developed nation.

Unless Canada changes the attitude Ph.D will work as loader, Engineer will drive cabs...

LOOK AT WHAT CANADA GAINS-----CAD 15,000 per head x 200,000 immigrants per year..........Billions of dollars

I dont need a calculator to know the amount like most of the 'ORIGINAL CANADIANS' ....thanks to the good schooling I had in India...

I am not completely negative about Canada.....you slog your day out and next generation will survive....if your kids are born and brought up in Canada...they will have Canadan accent...lifestyle and have the wavelength of "Original Canadian" which is enough to get a good job...

I have not seen people in the following Categories struggling...

WELDER, FITTER, MECHANIC, LOADER, TRAILER DRIVER, PLUMBER, MASON...which is a clear example that Canada needs the above....

I have only seen highly qualified people struggle like PH.D, SCEINTIST, ENGINEERS, DOCTORS, RESEARCH ANALYSTS etc...

Hence when facts are known...its upto individuals to decide course of action BEFORE ITS TOO LATE........

SUCCESS VS FAILURE...........

Failure in Canada

Qualified and experinced Engineers...
Ph.D and Research scientist.....
Persons who are 45+
Those who are working as Managers in India
Experienced Doctors.. as they have to study another 7 yrs in University
Conservative, religious and traditional people
New comer thinking of business in canada
People who are used to the luxury of Middle East jobs

Success in Canada

School dropouts migrating from India as they will do anything to live..
Labours/skilled workers... as they can earn CAD 9 / hr ...9 times than in India
Young graduate - 20 yr old as he gets 4 to 5 years to slog and come up..
Not qualified but has the English speaking ability to convince the "canadian" employer...
Capable and qualified - but willing to work for less and compromise self respect...
Qualified lady willing to do baby sitting at home.. can earn CAD 2000 tax free...
Mortgage a detached house...give basement and one room upstairs for rent and cover mortgage amount in that....

Deep.... damm you .. How dare you say such things abt Canada. When you cant write positive stuff abt Canada how can you ask ppl earning quite hefty sums back home to think twice abt coming here.

How dare you suggest that an engineer with 15 years of experience, a salesman with 10 years of experience, a microbiologist with x years of exp will work as a welder, fitter, Walmart clerk in Canada ! How Dare you....
Dont you realize, smart people will come to Canada , no matter what you tell them :) So just forget abt "Bhasaan"... Reading a few posts, I have stopped giving my "Betuki- Bhasaan's" to all and sundry :D

It is the right thing to do.. We should not show our ignorance publicly and allow enlightened folks from India, from the Gulf (umm what was that Lancer's, Pajero's :D ?) , from xyz etc. to come to Canada and enrich this country :D

BTW Deep a small tidbit.. I made a rough calculation. The Canadian Govt spent on me close to 30K$ during my Ph.d.. Its a pity, I was willing to work here and pay my taxes to this economy so that other immigrants could get benefits...but alas .. Bhalai ka zamana hi nahin raha... Like all ignorant (landed) desi's, I too must seek greener pastures beyond Canada :(

*BTW, I fall under your (semi) success category :D (student , though I was 23 when I landed here)

Hello ON

Comeone you are doing great. :D
Dont let "the lost cases" "smart people who will come anyway" like me put up you off so easily :D . I really respect your views and well intended advice sir.
Really, what you say - no pun intended - forces even the most optimistic and determined person to gave a thought before his leap. The fact that he may leap - may look like hem not heeding good advice- "what a fool see i told you so" - but then immigration is not as sipmple as buying a shoe. On which there can be a single comment like you saying "i bought that pair a month ago - shitty things - i would leave them if i were you" - and i could the pair down and walk away, to amother store.
I wish immigration were that easy. Please understand that people have put in a lot of effort - money - spent long time waiting - running after the thing - that the thing is no longer so straightforward so as to just listen to harsh facts and say "ok i leave it - i am happy in India". You have to appreciate that too. And even if they do this, then everytime they hear of a success story in Canada, he will never be able to forgive himself for not taking that chance.
Once again - yes this forum - and seniors like you - play a big role by telling all of us who are thinking of immigrating what is in store for them - and thats what is expected of you - after that - those guys - nuclear scientists, phds, doctors, mbas, dbbbbaaa whatever have enough in their top floors to be able to decide what to do - after all its their life, their wife and their children to whom they are finally answerable to :) .
You would have done your thing.
What all - we ( the clowns :) who still decide to go across not heeding you ;) ) have in our minds - a "dream" - which is still being dreamt - even though the harsh realities were told and amplified 1 million times - we sure could use some help - by way that "ok clown u r here - u didn t heed my advice, so anyway, this is what youshould do to feed yourself and the family" - and this becomes a sort of a help each other place. Lets do it for each person whos coming - why not make an India there itself where youmeet and chit chat about "hai rabba uski sarimeri sari se achi kaisi - suno ji - mujhe bhi waisi lakar do - nahi to belaan se maaroongi :D "
ON friend - you are a great movie buff - hats off - play antakshri ??
- Seniors like ON, Dont please dont stop your advice. we have to have the occasional dose of antibiotics as well. Hum log to sapne dekhe rahe hein color mein - we need people to tell us - that the reality is black and white & not color :) and be thankful for such guidance.
lemme tell you a story - all of you
once there was this king who wanted to fly - ( he was indian by the way - so it will be easier to relate to this immigration thing :D ) - and he told his minister - listen fools (there was no censor board then ) i know i can fly only thing i dont know how to so i give you30 days to get that process otherwise you lose your heads.
Now this got the ministers (not unlike our present day ones who were relaxing till then ) to a quandry.
No one could do anything - all failed.
Then a hermit came and said "ok i will"
he took the king to the terrace and said "now u have to jump and i guarantee that yuowill fly"
King - "Yousure ?"
Hermit - "Absolutely"
king - "Sure ? Big time sure ?"
Hermit - "yes i am sure . but then youmust not do one thing"
King - "I knew there would be a catch. whats that"
hermit - "when you leap - you will fly - i guarantee that - but you must not think of a monkey - or else you will fall and die - and i am not liable for that."

DO YOU THINK THAT THE KING EVER LEAPT ? :D

It only takes a small tiny nagging doubt in the back of your minds to stop you from suceeding even if you have the capability to succeed.

is that what we aretrying to make this forum ?

Lets go - box

Someone please tell a few things which dont scare us that much.:D - Pramodji yeh aapne kya kar diya ?

Regards

SF

S'up Deep? I think that even if you say it a million times, immigrants will keep right on comin' so save yer breath- jes let it ride.

Here are my comments as it pertains to me.
Your quote follows:

Qualified lady willing to do baby sitting at home.. can earn CAD 2000 tax free...
Mortgage a detached house...give basement and one room upstairs for rent and cover mortgage amount in that....

As regards your failure in Canada hypothesis:

Persons above 45, those working as managers in India, new comer thinking of business in Canada

I was a regional director in Birla earning over Rs 1,00,000 per month in India- which is considered excellent. I had 2 domestic servants full time plus one who came in the mornings to do “jaroo katka” and the loos. As perks I had an office paid chauffer driven car to take me to office and home. The driver would carry my briefcase. I would have dinner at The Oberoi, The Taj, The Kempinsky and other five star hotels on the company’s account. I even went to Delhi and would stay at the Maurya Sheraton and have eaten at the world famous Indian restaurant “Bukhara” all on company account. I would go to Mauritius, Dubai (since you are there- we would stay par Dubai at the Astoria- not a great hotel but excellent Mex rest there), Hong Kong, Bangkok and other places all on company account. Yet I migrated to Canada at 45+ worked as a fund analyst with AGF mutual funds earning more than I did in India but without the perks. As a matter of fact I consider myself slumming it out as compared to India. I am now a financial advisor and also have a number of vending machines and ATM machines running in town and in Niagara (IE I am in business). I came here for one purpose and one purpose only to make enough money to send my child to an Ivy League school, which I couldn’t see accomplishing in India. I have my nest egg already for my retirement in India. I am not here for that.
I am not in as good a position as I was in India but as things are progressing I can see reaching that in 4-5 years without the “naukars”. As perks I have the opportunity to see Eric Clapton, Santana, Guns n Roses, Rolling Stones, AC/DC all live here in Toronto. In India all we got to see were the local artists. Also went to see Norah Jones – Ravi Shankar’s daughter- two days ago live at the Molson Amphiteatre.

There are many managers of govt banks (UCO, SBI, Canara) from India working as customer service reps or personal banking officers here in Canada and are much happier than in India where they were earning a measly Rs 15,000 per month.

FYI most Indian people here are conservative, religious and traditional people- in my experience – these are the most successful here not the failure.

Kinda smashes your hypothesis to smithereens, don’t it ?

As regards your success in Canada

Capable and qualified - but willing to work for less and compromise self respect...

I am capable and qualified. An MBA – no Phd- but in my days the joke was that Phd= Phira Hua Dimag. I didn’t think that really but it was the joke going around to justify why we weren’t taking up further study. All Phds – do not take offence- it was only a college joke and you know the crazy things one says and does in college! Also I am not working for less and I have not compromised my self respect.

Actually, as an after thought, Rs 1,00,000 per month or approx $3,000 is not much in Canada- a regular customer service rep makes that! As a matter of fact even at $7.15 the min here in Toronto is far higher than most managers at govt. banks make in India even in Mumbai.

SoberFlier :-

Ekdum jhakkas..Even as I write this post, peeche DVD player mein ..Subhash Ghai ka Hero chal raha hai :D I was not so much a film buff. After I landed here, shauk badhta gaya, badhta gaya and now its more of an addiction. Kuch samjhe Janaab..abhi tak hum kunware kyon hain ;)
Yahank ki Ladkiyon ko hamare is shauk se koi dilchaspni nahin hai ( ek ne toh Hindi filmon ko bekaar hi keh diya :D)..
So filmon ke baare mein kuch discuss karni ho , ya antakshari/tambola khelni ho..toh aa jao :D
