My advise to all is , any one who's take home is Rs 40,000/- after tax and who has to feed a family 4 need not come to Canada for the money , in 99% of the cases he will be unemployed for 1 year doing casual jobs and after that only .5% will get good jobs .
Now if you think you are among the .5 % then OK you can take the plunge .

Hi all
i am getting really jittery reading about all this stuff. i have just received the PR visa for my wife and myself. infact we were quite excited about the same but now i am in real double minds. am well settled in India in early 30's but now will have to decide whether to go ahead, leave my decent job and leave for canada or not.

Are you there?
If you take short leave and come to Canada to test the waters , I guarantee you one thing you will be on that flight back to India in 3 months flat . Forget it save the flight charges

I can't exactly guarantee it, but its quite likely. In my opinion though, this would still be better than just giving it up without trying.

As BL said "Otherwise, you may want to take leave and at least get a feel for what you've been waiting for so long. "
I know of a person who got a job in three days. He just happened to be at the right place and at the right time. Of course it was not in his trade but a good way to start and get some Canadian experience. In two weeks he got the job he wanted. How? He did some networking, talking to people on the bus or getting in touch with folks from his town who came here many years ago. All of us may have not been that lucky.
Success lies in the risk you take.
I am sure every immigrant do think seriously how they are going to survive and picture themselves eventually being successful even before applying for Canadian immigration.
Am the chief recruiter with a recruiting firm (IT ) I could try to place Mercury if he could send his resume to my email ID .

Friends,
I live in US and i was surprised to see such a negative attitude in this thread.
like on of our friends said he has seen many people who have been successful in canada.
i too would agree.
If you look at most of the people who are not getting jobs or are not getting placed in universities, it is because somewhere they are responsible for their own situation.
1. Indians expect that there will be million jobs specifically catered to their skill sets
and their profiles and maybe exactly same as what they have been doing in india.
but unfortuinately this is not true. people who are looking for jobs in canada
or are planning to come to canada from india should do a detailed analysis of
where the job market is heading. i cant expect to get a job on day 1 in the field
i want in the place i want and in the company i want and doingexactly the same
as i might be doing in some small shop/company in india.
2. People applying to edcuational universities fail to understand the Edcuation
System. Apart from Degree etc,, you got to understand and project your
profile as required. This includes a GRE/GMAT/SAT/TOEFL/IELTS score
and Statement of purpose and Excellent Recommendation letters and above
all aggressive and never say die attitude to do anything and work dynamically and out of the box.
3. Indians lack good commmunication skills. i am an indian as well and have
put in a lot of hard word to improve my communication skills and not just
give TOELF tests etc. It is very important. This not only involves verbal
but also written communication i.e. cover letter and effective Resumes.
Every Resume speficially catered to the job requirement highlighting everythiong in detail and not mentioniing a word of crap or anything of lesses significance.
4. Finally when it comes to dressing effectively or giving up religious
objects ,clean shave etc indians dont want to do that and they give a misunderstood impression to people of other nationalities.
5. The example given by our friend highlights mechnical efforts put in by somwe
individual who made 50 000 or 50 million calls but probably failed to analyse what
were his drawbacks or never did a gap analysis of what the job wanted.
guys you gotta ready to learn new things and sometimes thru your
communication even convince others that you really know something which
you might not know.
in a country like US i have seen some of the richest people are indians.
given the above factors if they are improved, i am sure that indians can
outshine anyone on this planet given their rigorous education process in india
and an inborn quality to compete and win. This would also apply to the neighbouring countries of india.
Best of luck to all of you and pls do a lot of homework as to where are you going to land up. dont make any assumptions. dont be shy to ask anyone about anything whether a GORA or KALA. be prepared to change your self and learn new things and dont come with a closed narrow minded mindset.
JAI HIND. HAIL INDIA.
