Crenshaw, Manasvi, Chandresh and all of u,

I am back from vacation............things are not that easy in India.....its tough life over there....will be writing more about those later......

Coming to the facts n figures......highlighting GDP/GNP/PPP etc. I dont want to go deep into $$$ and trillions.........whatever the figures may be .....if you sum up the bank balance of 15% Rich Indians + the black money floated in the country.........India can easily buy Canada for CASH........

But......unfortunately govt cant do much about that....THAT'S INDIA........

They were shown a dream and they sacrificed their careers and future for it and in the end they got a raw deal ........... Thats why they complain as they werent delivered what they were promised ......... Engineers and doctors were forced to lift boxes and drive cabs ...............

nobody can promise a dream.
An observation:
Your responses jump between emotional rhetoric and logic. If you just chose one of those reactions...you would have a better chance of dealing with Cren :)

Nobody can force you or ask you to immigrate to Canada and neither can anyone ask you to go back. It was your decision to come and so it will be your decision to go back.

Even if a consultant sold you the idea of immigrating saying whatever, you bought it. "Buyer beware."

That was exactly the point I was getting across . That money isnt a contraint for Indians 2 arrive Canada in overwhelming numbers (The entire annual US H1B quota closed on the 1st day itself !!!! ) . And black money changes the figures entirely . Difference b/w theory & practise . Till r friend came along and started giving the USD 600 per capita BS which is illogical & misleading as rightly observed by other members as well.

And J3D thanks for ur advice .I will use it sm other time as I feel more content 2 balance emotions with logic as individually either wud b meaningless.

Entire H1B quota "closed" on the 1st day itself......were ALL of these issued to Indians? ;)

You are letting emotion override logic again :D

The $600 statistic is not BS! That is the per capita income of the country in real terms. If one goes by the per capita income, the Canadian immigration fees and liquid funds requirement would amount to 25 years of savings at a savings rate of 50% of income, which was the crux of the argument that I made.

The figures that you quoted – and to which you provided a link in one of your previous posts - on the other hand (40 million people with incomes of $600k and 110 million people with incomes of $20k) are almost impossible, cause if you do the math, the income of these 150 million people itself would work out to about $27 trillion, whereas India’s actual total GDP (which would include corporate earnings) at PPP is in the order of about $3 trillion.

To put it into perspective, the US’s GDP is about $10 trillion.

Deep’s statements are pure conjecture, can’t see that being backed up by numbers anywhere:

With 1/30th of the population (30 million V/s 1 billion):

Canada has a GDP that is nearly double that of India’s in real terms.
Consumes more electricity than all of India does
Imports 5 times (by value) more commodities than India does
Exports 7 times (by value) more commodities than India does

Coming back to the main topic of that we were discussing here though, I would think that the real reason why people don’t go back is because they see the opportunity provided by this place.

That’s also probably the reason why Manasvi after being so negative about Canada, still thinks of coming here. If Canada was devoid of that opportunity, a persons natural instinct would be to ‘cut his losses’ and get outta here, abandon the place totally.

I imagine that was also the point that the originator of this thread was trying to make.

I came to this country about 5 years back. I have had my share of the cliched "up's and down's) - I did not land with a sack full of greenbacks, but many bags - full of hope, courage and the determination to succeed.

Just the other day someone told me that those who succeed in their career do not visit the "canadiandesi" website, and the only reason they do was to see how badly the sentences on this forum were constructed (or how badly the words were spelt). I am well on my way to the pinnacle of success (should I say in mountaneering terms that I have set up my "base camp"?). Yet I visit this site often..........just to keep in touch with the "desi community".

It pains me when I notice that all that people do on this forum is complain, grumble and shower their choicest abuse on the "canadian system" the "immigration Department" the "racist Society"..... Well the list seems to grow each day.

I am tired of hearing how canadian society does not "recognise Indian educational degrees (where for a few thousand rupees, one can buy a degree certificate), or how people who are doctors and engineers become cabbies (from a country where the conditions for success includeis whether you were born a "harijan" (read SC/ST).
or not. Even to this day in my "Mera Bharat Mahaan", your shortcomings, lack of education or skills can be looked the other way if you can bribe your way into a job. Or simply put, you can be the best candidate for the job, but if you can't afford to bribe the minister (or his personal secretary, the ubuquitious "chaprasi, peon or Attender", you can kiss the job goodbye (even before you got it!)

Such is the society we come from. Do you think the Canadians( or for that matter anyone outside India) don't know of the goings on in India? Do you REALLY expect Canadians to take us seriously?. There are exceptions - when you can prove that you can be better than the "Gora Canadian"(no offense meant), or that you are well integreted into the Canadian society, or when you can talk English exceptionally well (like NOT pronounce "snacks" as "Snakes" or "government" as "Governa-ament" or "Zero" as "Jeero".

Yeah there is a small choice. Become a Canadian in every sense of the word.........or PACK your samsonite, and go to your ""Tumhara Bharat Mahaan".

Good luck (with your becoming a Canadian) or with your journey home.

Well said, I agree with your post for the most part. I seems to me that the members of this site have been dwelling on the negative aspects of Canada. I think this site is an inaccurate portrayal of Canada. I believe it has been mentioned in one of the posts that they use this site as an outlet for their frustrations. I'm wondering, if there is an American Desi site, or a British Desi site and if the immgrants are facing the same difficulties Canadian Desis are facing.
