Hi Guys ,

Kindly clarify my (mis) understanding & notions .

I feel that the large chunk of Indian Immigrants r Engineers /Docs /CAs in their 30s earning around INR 30 - 35k pm . Right or wrong??

These ppl come with their life s saving of INR 5 lacs upwards 2 start a new life in Canada .

Out of these 80% (pls correct me) :

In order 2 save depleting reserves they take odd jobs like Tim Hortons / Factory / salesmen etc which demand 8 hours of shift regularly and pay around CAD 2k pm which finishes off in the rent/car/expenses .

After 1 yr/ 2 yr they find themselves trapped by these jobs & difficult 2 board their originial functonal areas . Right or wrong??

Now the same guy who was earning 35k in India @ that time & knows that he wud have risen 2 INR 50 k by now and in a better job feels cheated and I think it happens 2 a majority .Right or wrong ??

No doubt Canada is better than India but does it have job satisfying economy .Yes they have vast natural resources & have pumped Immigrants 2 utilise them .

Well frankly 2day I wud seriously think if I have a INR 60k job @ B lore plus a career v/s settling in Canada . Its only due 2 the Intrnet & Canadian Desi that prospective Immigrants wud ve become more aware .

Kindly clear my misconceptions with advanced Thanks as I might b going in wrong line of thinking all along .

Manasvi .

PS Yes I do believe in the entrepreneur route .If u can pump in some money u will get better returns which eventually the Govt wants u 2 do . In the end its a give n take .

80%!!! Don't know where you could have got a number like that from.

Since you've raised the issue of statistics - you want numbers of successful people in Canada and you've also made comparisons with B'lore in the same breath, I'll address the B'lore issue first:

- Do you have statistics of power outages in B'lore?

- Do you have statistics on water supply in B'lore?

- Do you have statistics on traffic for B'lore, how long do people spend in a commute from home to the office?

- A lot of you rave about "broadband" access in B'lore. Isn't this a 256kbps service - as compared to a 3Mbps or better service that one would find in North America. Not in the same league I would say.

A very large number of immigrants (I won't hazard a guess as to the percentage) do find work in their own professions! I imagine its difficult to find information about Indians to this effect in view of lack of information by race (don't pick up on this now and suggest that its all a conspiracy).

As far as I'm concerned, I live in an up-market condo complex, drive a premium car and I see a lot of browns that do the same. At work and at my clients, again, I see a lot of browns in responsible professional positions. I don't go around with a piece of paper trying to keep track and statistics of all of this........but I've seen my family members, friends and ex-colleagues come in and integrate here without a problem. I came in about 15 months ago and already have a pretty settled look about myself. If we could do it, I'm sure a lot of other people can too......with the right information, and the right attitude, not by assuming that 80% of professionals work at Tim Horton's here.

Just to put a perspective on this, approx 20,000 odd Indians immigrated to Canada during 2003. If we go by your numbers, we would have 16,000 new Indians at Tim Horton's, McD, etc. Sounds illogical? Yeah sure does, especially when you consider that another 20k will immigrate this year - you figure that would mean another 16k would be added to Timmy's workforce..........either Timmy's is growing like crazy or your numbers are BS, I'll go with the latter.

Chandreshji has made a very interesting comment in this thread and that is " How does one define a loser?"

1. Does the world's richest man Bill Gates consider all other humans as "Losers" since they have not attained the same level of personal wealth which he has build up? I remember watching a report which showed Bill Gates holding an Indian baby in his arms and giving it anti-polio medication.

2. Is success to be measured in terms of materialistic wealth only? If yes then should we consider Mother Theresa, Mahatma Gandhi as losers? If materialistic wealth alone gives happiness then why did Emperor Ashoka and Gautam Buddha give up their kingdom to lead a simple life.

3. Should we consider the swami's, jain munis, buddhist monks and christian missionaries as losers?

4. Isn't personal happiness, good health, faith and spiritual satisfaction more important? Can we define the CEO's of companies who have "plundered" the wealth of share holders as successful? Is acquiring wealth at the expense of old, handicapped people a success?

5. Narayan Murthy ( of Infosys ;) cleans his house and he doesn't have a maid at home. Is he a loser? And how would you rate all those corrupt politicians and bureaucrats with their ill gotten wealth?

6. Is success a permanent feature? Isn't life full of pluses and minuses. Do the world's richest people fill up their coffins with thousand dollar bills to have some pocket money on their journey:) .

7.Does a fluency in English language guarantees success in life? Do the chairman of Sony Corp, Toyota speak in fluent english? Aren't their products so successful in North America.

8.Can a human being judge another human being as successful or loser? Are we the creator of this vast universe ( 168 billion trillion miles of space) . Does the creator who expends millions of tons of liquid hydrogen fuel to sustain life on this planet view us as losers ( remember the billions of stars some of which are a million times the size of our sun, where do all these energy come from?)

9. Isn't life a learning experience and why should we behave like human beings with a spiritual existence when in fact we are spiritual beings with a human existence.

Thoughts and comments to these are most welcome.

Thanks and regards,

Nikhil

I am forced to reponse to your reply. I find you very imature. You catch hold of figures in this thread and try to disect that person. Why dont you give any confirm figures to stop the % fight of hw many are in good jobs and rest in timmy's job. Stop this oversmart behavior.
Are you sure you get 3Mbps service because my basic connection shows speed of 100Mbps. First of all are you sure 3Mbps service is good or bad...........
That guy is trying to analyse the situtation, let him have fare chance. Why do you want to decide on his behalf. And when we say labour job or McDonal job, it means that unskilled job...not prosperity of Timmy's.....stop this kind of imature arguments.
Here I wanted to identify or tried to reason a genuine problem, if you dont agree.......and argue to majority immigrants are successful.....I would like to include you and your friends in sample study, if you wish to..............Also, please let us know your proffession, your other collegue profession.....and dont impress us with your premium car. If you want to find out about premium cars.....go to woodbine race track on Sundays...you will find atleast one premium car on display.........I strongly feel that you do not know about premium cars.........
My request to you is, please dont try to catch figures if you are not able to provide dont corner the other guy for it.....various threads you have been replying in this manner.........you have not been smart enough to provide us with exact figure of successful community or solution to improve existing unsuccessful community.......................
I will wait for your harsh reply..............that is the only message you can put on this forum........

Nikhil.....well said.....atleas this may help some of the successful immigrants to improve their thinking about success.........
I agree with you that combination of various factors when present in right proportion makes you successful......alone power or money or family or premium cars dont make you successful.......

Hope this discussion ends soon. Think, there are quite a number of Gujarati speaking gentlemen active on CD. This topic on charcha reminds me of "Akha na Chappa" s Va Vaayu ne nalyu Khasyu...... and Hu karu hu karu tej agyanta.... Leave the worries alone. Enjoy your moments here in Canada, Guys!! No matter how much you bounce up and down, things are going to be just the way they are. Your anguish or frustrations or your arguments are simply redundant and out of place. They do not have any positive impact anywhere or at any place.
