They are not here for some other reason. Unknown at this point.:D

I guess they arent here coz as Jake3d said they are put off by the negativity and choose not to respond to negative things.

No, they should be here. The matter is serious enough. If they cant cope with negativity (which is about in the world), then they have a problem. They are running away from it. The only way to face a problem (perceived or otherwise) is to face it.

Not just that!

Don’t get me wrong, but a person who’s reasonably well settled in Canada may not necessarily have much to gain from a site where a majority of the posters are struggling to just stay afloat. There’s a wee bit of networking that can take place, but everything else gets lost in the din of irrational and over the top statements.

Guess those of us who stuck on as contributors have one reason or the other for doing so. In my case it was probably because it appealed to my combative side……:)

Depends on how you look at it. They might have chosen to stay away coz taking a horse to drink water is one thing while making it drink water is another. The successful people have bigger battles to win rather than change the negative attitude of a bunch of whiners.

And yes I agree with you the only way to face a problem is face it and do something about it rather than whine and hope the problem goes away or someone else comes and fixes it for you. Thats what a majority of whiners expect.

I don’t seem to be able to keep up with the posts today, as much as I normally would! :)

also Crenshaw.. what changes do you mean? I know so many people that have anglosized (sp) their name when they moved here.. however I dont know how well that works.

Job search skills, resumes etc and understanding of the local labour market is what I assume you mean :)

I don’t think Anglicizing a name necessarily helps, but heck, maybe I’m biased as I have an Anglo name anyway.

I intended my comments to be broader than just job searches. There’s also this presumption by most South Asian immigrants, that the West is morally decadent, that their (South Asian) culture is superior, that the West has no family values and no family life. End result is that South Asian immigrants (especially first generation) make friends and hang out within the community rather than going out and broadening their horizons and learning a different perspective. As harsh as this may sound, they end up creating their little ghettos and live within them, never understanding what is beyond that.

This is probably more true of the GTA than western Canada…….

Knowledge of the labor market certainly does help (especially not making an assumption that a new immigrant MUST work on the shop floor at a factory)……..

I am not familiar with GTA however the GVA has \"ghettos\" of ethnic groups as well. I wonder if the younger (and more formally educated) group remain within or move out? Coming back to Language, I assume that those with lower english skills feel more comfortable within their community and can communicate for essential services without feeling alienated in a new place.

Hence why I advise others to check out Winnipeg, Calgary Edmonton, Regina etc !! :) There are job opportunities out there.. and get away from the metro areas if required.
However the community support may not be so concentrated in these cities... and people may be more integrated and 'spread out'.

I thought you stop with the big battles once success is achieved.
Then all that is left are mortgages to pay.

So stop whining about their whining.

Yo, they have overcome odds(negative circumstances). Thats why you would consider them successful. There are other serious matters they have to attend to so as to maintain or build on their success. Often it means fighting more odds than just 'finding a good job'. Speaking for myself, that's easier to do that than 'Create good jobs'.

They dont have a problem :) that can be solved by CD.

I'm in the media biz...so I have something to gain by keeping an eye on the pulse of CD's. Most of my proposals to gocvt bodies involve our culture/roots. If I were an successful aeronautical eng OR a professor...I prolly would not be here.
